The Summer Company program provides an opportunity for Ontario students to test-drive a career in entrepreneurship by starting their own summer business. In the Cochrane District, the program is administered by The Business Enterprise Centre, based in Timmins.

Here is the process to apply for the program:

Complete this Expression of Interest Form
- Our Business Development Consultant will invite you to an Intake Interview and work with you to complete the next steps--creating a business plan and cash flow projection.
- Submit your completed business plan and cash flow projection by Friday May 16 2025 (NOTE: post-secondary students should aim to have applications submitted by Friday April 18 2025).
- Approved participants in the program will be asked to provide the following documents (assistance will be provided by your Business Development Consultant):
- Name Registration for Sole Proprietorship
- Proof of commercial general liability insurance with City of Timmins listed as a named insured
- City of Timmins Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) Form along with void cheque or direct deposit form
- Identify a mentor and provide a Vulnerable Sector Check for them (we will reimburse the cost).
- Signed documents relating to Summer Company program
- Signed contract with City of Timmins
- You will then receive a $1,500 grant to support your start-up costs (aim to spend the full $1,500 to maximize the grant).
- In order to receive the $1,500 award for completing the program, participants are required to do the following:
- Submit $1,500 worth of receipts for start-up costs to your Business Development Consultant.
- Complete the minimum number of logged work hours (280 hours over 8 weeks for high school students; 420 hours over 12 weeks for post-secondary students).
- Track all revenue and expenses with tools provided by your Business Development Consultant.
- Submit logs for at least 2 interactions with your mentor.
- Meet with your Business Development Consultant every two weeks throughout the summer to discuss your progress.
- Complete the Summer Company Exit Interview
