We, the undersigned Resident Assistants at Georgetown University, recognize that by joining together in a union we will gain a seat at the table to make improvements in our workplace. United, we will safeguard and enrich student life at Georgetown by establishing a strong community which promotes respect, transparency and justice. We authorize OPEIU Local 153, AFL-CIO, to represent us for collective bargaining with our employer, Georgetown University. We ask that Georgetown voluntarily recognize our union.
I understand that this authorization card will NOT be sent to anyone in Georgetown administration. I understand that my right to sign this is protected by federal law. According to the National Labor Relations Board: “You have the right to organize a union to negotiate with your employer over your terms and conditions of employment. This includes your right to solicit coworkers to sign union authorization cards and discuss the union with coworkers. Supervisors and managers cannot spy on you (or make it appear that they are doing so), coercively question you, threaten you or bribe you regarding your union activity or the union activities of your co-workers. You can't be fired, disciplined, demoted, or penalized in any way for engaging in these activities.”
