  • President's Leadership Program Scholarship Application - 2026/27

  • Congratulations on taking the first step to being a more effective leader.  Scholarships for the Fall 2026 semester are available.  Students may enroll in and participate in MAN 2024, Introduction to Leadership, whether or not they receive the scholarship.  Scholarship recipients will be required to complete additional community service requirements in addition to the requirements of the class.  MAN 2024 will meet on Wednesdays, 6:00-8:45 pm.  Please direct any questions to maureen.rikhof@otero.edu

    Applicants chosen to proceed in the scholarship selection process will be contacted for an interview to be scheduled in late April, early May 2026.

    As part of this application process, you must submit two letters of recommendation.  You can upload the letters into this form, you can ask your recommenders to submit the letters directly to the program instructor, maureen.rikhof@otero.edu or mailed to Maureen Rikhof, 1802 Colorado Ave, La Junta, CO 81050.

    Preferred deadline for applications is April 15, 2026.

  • For your second essay, please select one (1) of the following questions and respond to it in an essay of 500 words or less. You will be evaluated on the thoughtfulness of your response and how well you explain and/or defend your position.

    1. Explain why leadership is important to you. How has leadership changed your life? How do you plan to incorporate leadership in your future?

    2. Many highly effective leaders have noted that they have learned more about leadership in times of crisis than times of success. Select a current problem, issue or crisis and describe how you would address it.

    3. What does the term "servant-leadership" mean to you? Describe a person who is a servant-leader and why those qualities have made him or her successful.
