    Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, is a public service organization of black, college-educated women that strives to improve the condition of African Americans and, in so doing, build a stronger, more just country for all Americans.  During its 113-year history, the organization has developed an extensive array of public service projects through its Five-Point Programmatic Thrust of Economic Development, Educational Development, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health, and Political Awareness and Involvement.

    Since its chartering in 1985, the Potomac Valley Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has served the Greater Montgomery County, Maryland area. The Chapter continues to address the conditions of low-income communities within its service area, with a particular focus on African American communities.

    The Potomac Valley Alumnae Scholarships are designated for Montgomery County High School graduating seniors and Adult Learners based on the following criteria:

    • Community Service
    • Academic Achievement
    • Personal Statement
    • Financial Need

  • Scholarship Types and Eligibility

    • High School Scholarship 3.0 and above 
    • The minimum award will be $2,500.

      Applicant must:

      • Be a high school senior who lives in or attends school in the communities of Potomac, Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Gaithersburg, Germantown, Rockville, Poolesville, Darnestown, or Seneca.
      • Not be a daughter/son of a member of the Potomac Valley Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
      • Have an overall unweighted GPA of 3.0 or above.
      • Be enrolled full-time in an accredited institution by Fall 2026, seeking an Associate's or Bachelor's degree.

      Application Instructions:

      1. Complete all sections of the application.
      2. Save your progress as needed: When you click “Save,” you can create a Jotform account or skip that step and enter your email address to receive a draft link to return and complete the application later.
      3. Upload a 500-word personal statement detailing how a scholarship from PVAC will help you achieve your future goals. (12-point font, double-spaced).
      4. Upload a current community service recommendation letter (2025-2026 academic year) - MUST BE SIGNED, DATED, AND TYPED, and on the organization's official letterhead, and cannot be from an immediate family member. If you do not have the letter when submitting the application, you must provide the name and email address of the individual who will write the letter.  This individual will be sent an email with a link to upload the letter after you submit the application.
      5. Upload a current recommendation letter from a school official, such as a teacher, guidance counselor, or advisor (2025-2026 academic year) - MUST BE SIGNED, DATED, AND TYPED, and on the school's official letterhead. If you do not have the letter when submitting the application, you must provide the name and email address of the school official who will write the letter.   The school official will be sent an email with a link to upload the letter after you submit the application.
      6. Upload a copy of the 2026-2027 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Submission Summary.
      7. Submit a current official electronic transcript submitted directly from the applicant's school to the following email: scholarship@dstpvac.org. The transcript must be received by May 31, 2026.
      8. All items listed above must be included in the application package (except the transcript, which must be sent separately), along with the applicant's and parent/guardian's signatures. Omission of any of these items will exclude the applicant from consideration.
      9. If awarded the scholarship, the recipient must provide proof of enrollment from the college or university by November 1, 2026, to receive funds. Class schedules will not be accepted as proof of enrollment.
      10. Completed applications must be received electronically no later than 11:59 p.m. (Eastern Time) on May 31, 2026.

      • Be an adult at least 3 years out of high school.
      • Be a resident currently living in or enrolled in a school in a city within the chapter’s service areas: Potomac, Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Gaithersburg, Germantown, Rockville, Poolesville, Darnestown, or Seneca.
      • Plan to be enrolled in an accredited institution by Fall 2026, seeking a Certificate, Associate, or Bachelor’s degree.

      Application Instructions:

      1. Complete all sections of the application.
