  • Membership Terms | 1.3.0

Please read our Terms and Conditions below, then sign and submit this form at the bottom of the page.
    1. You and us
      1. This is an agreement between us, Parliament Coworking Unit Trust trading as Parliament (collectively “Parliament”, “we”, or “us”), and you (“you”, “your”).
      2. This document together with any Membership Plan document is to be taken as the "Membership Agreement" (or "agreement") which outlines the conditions of your membership.
      3. Your membership permits you to use our facilities and services, as governed by the Membership Agreement.
      4. The location(s) in which our facilities and services are based is referred to as the "space" or "spaces".
      5. Accepting this agreement does not automatically entitle you to membership. Your application is subject to review and approval by us.
      6. This is not a rental arrangement; we are not your landlord and you are not our tenant.
      7. This agreement supersedes all prior agreements and understandings, written or otherwise.

    2. Membership

This is a limited-time offer for our Moonah coworking space.

Billing is monthly (not upfront), and the discount applies to coworking memberships only. Private offices are excluded.

After the discounted period, your membership simply rolls onto the standard month-to-month term. There’s no obligation to stay — you just need to give us one calendar month’s notice if you decide to leave.

      1. Dedicated Desk and Hot Desk Memberships with us gives you access to, and use of, the facilities we offer in our space, along with participation in our community.
        1. Upon request Virtual Office Memberships can have physical access to, and use of, the facilities we offer in our space in accordance to our Hot Desk Membership.
      2. Your specific access, usage, space, and location terms are outlined in your Membership Plan, and may override or amend these terms.
      3. You agree to pay a monthly membership fee.
      4. Internet, power, and building outgoings are included in the monthly membership fee, subject to reasonable fair use.
      5. Your use of the space is non-exclusive since many of our facilities are shared between members.
      6. Your use of the space includes use of the kitchenette facilities, and all communal spaces and meeting rooms within the space.
      7. We host occasional events and activities in our spaces. During such time your use of the space may be limited.
      8. We encourage you to play music from provided audio systems, just download the applicable app to your phone. We are yet to ban access to the audio systems for poor taste in music… but it could happen!
      9. Printing facilities are available on a per-use basis at an additional (but low) cost. Printing is based on an honesty system and price per page varies based on our current printer.
      10. Kitchen, tea, and coffee facilities. You are welcome to use all current kitchen equipment provided by Parliament in the kitchenette, provided you clean it after use. Please note however that some equipment may belong to other members.
      11. Due to third party services (like internet and power) and other factors, we can’t provide a 100% guarantee that all equipment, facilities and services in the space are always available.
      12. While we do hire a cleaner, keeping the Space clean and tidy is a responsibility shared between you and us. You are expected to clean up after yourself.
      13. You must respect other people’s right to quiet enjoyment. We suggest ringtones are set to a non-offensive volume. For extended conversations, phone calls, and meetings, you may wish to use one of our common spaces or meeting rooms. That said, this is a shared working space not a library.
      14. Smoking is prohibited within the space.
      15. We use software that helps us communicate information related to Parliament, be that social events, changes to the space or how we operate, and any OH&S information. Right now we’re using Slack (slack.com). You agree to use such software as directed by us.
      16. Social activities are a great way to network with other members of our community. Despite these being discussed on Parliament communication channels or otherwise appearing to be organised or condoned by us, these activities are undertaken AT YOUR OWN RISK. You will not hold us account accountable in any way.
      17. Pets in the space. We have a Pets in the space policy (link) allowing members to bring dogs into the space. You acknowledge that other members may bring pets into the space and accept the risk to your person that this entails.
      18. You must get approval from us before installing or using any heating equipment or other high-power-using equipment in the space.
      19. Subject to our approval, you may install additional furnishings (eg whiteboard affixed to wall) in the space, provided that you return the space to the original condition by your end date, or a date specified by us.
      20. Your membership is non-transferable.
      21. Masks. If you are experiencing symptoms of illness, including but not limited to fever, coughing, or sore throat, you must either stay home or wear a mask at all times while inside the space and near others and take additional care to clean all shared facilities and surfaces you come into contact with.

    3. Plans
      1. Your specific membership fees, minimum term, and notice to vacate terms are outlined in your Membership Plan, and may override or add to these terms.
      2. We refer to the specific membership details of your agreement with us as your "plan" or "membership plan".
      3. Fees are per-month and are inclusive of GST (Goods and Services Tax) unless clearly stated otherwise.
      4. For Private Offices, the Fee will increase on July 1 every year by the greater of five percent (5%) or the percentage increase in the consumer price index (the “CPI”) for the previous twelve (12) months. For Dedicated Desks and Hot Desks any Fee increases are at our discretion, for which we will provide all Members three (3) months notice.

    4. Duration of use
      1. You will have access to the space from the Start Date through to and inclusive of an End Date.
      2. The End Date is determined by:
        1. Either party (you or us) notifying the other party of an intention to vacate the space and specifying a date in the future such that,
        2. the specified date falls on the last day of a calendar month, and
        3. the specified date is at least your plan's minimum term from the Start Date, and
        4. the specified date is at least your plan's notice period from the date of notification, or
        5. where a Negotiated Usage End Date is specified and agreed to by you and us in advance.
      3. By your End Date you agree to vacate the space, leaving it clean and tidy, and return to us any provided keys.

    5. Payment
      1. Payment is via direct debit only and direct debit details must be provided so that we can:
        1. set up recurring, monthly, automated billing (typically such payments fall on the first weekday of each calendar month), and
        2. transfer a small initial payment from your account (at our discretion and no more than $5) for the purposes of verifying your provided payment details. This amount will be discounted from your next scheduled payment.
      2. Where a pro rata arrangement is made (e.g., your Start Date is not the first day of a calendar month) you agree to a pro rata payment as calculated by the number of days from the Start Date to the end of the month against the total number of days in that month.
      3. Where you request a change of plan, you authorise us to vary your payment amount in accordance with your requested plan’s pricing.
      4. You agree to reasonable changes to the amount and timing of payments and fees. Typically this means an increase based on CPI.
      5. Credit card payments can be arranged on a temporary basis. You agree to pay an additional processing fee on all amounts charged, until such time that you provide appropriate direct deposit details.
      6. Late or bounced payments (e.g., when you have insufficient funds in your nominated account) will incur a dishonour fee of $15. This dishonour fee is set by our third party payments provider and may change from time to time.
      7. You must continue to pay membership fees until the End Date is reached.
      8. You agree to be charged monthly fees beyond the End Date if you fail to vacate by the End Date or fail to return keys.

    6. Access
      1. Upon receipt of first payment we will provide you with access to the space in the form of a key, keycard, or fob (we refer to these collectively as “key” or “keys”). These are to be returned to us by the End Date.
      2. In the event that keys are lost or stolen you must notify us immediately. You will be liable for the cost to replace lost or stolen keys. You may also be liable for the cost to replace locks and cut new keys if we are directed to do so by the building landlord.
      3. In the event you are given access or keys to the space outside of any specified Start Date and End Date (for instance, moving some belongings in early) you are still bound by this agreement.
      4. All members are responsible for the security of the space. You must ensure that space access doors are closed and locked behind you whenever you leave the space.

    7. Premises
      1. Our Spaces are in old buildings. While we love their charm, their age means this comes at the cost of modern conveniences. Facilities required by modern building codes may not be present.
      2. Specifically, but not exclusively, our spaces have stairs and no elevators; floors may be uneven; exposed timber beams may be at head height in some places.
      3. You are encouraged to inspect the Spaces and facilities and ensure you’re satisfied that the space is appropriate for your personal need and situation.
      4. Accepting this agreement acknowledges you are satisfied with the Space and facilities.

    8. Privacy
      1. Violations of privacy and intellectual property are strictly prohibited.

    9. Insurance + Competition
      1. Public liability. We have public liability insurance which covers the business activities of Parliament, covering us for many events in which you may hurt yourself within the space. Please note that this does NOT extend to guests you bring in to the space, nor to your own business activities. We recommend you take out your own public liability insurance.
      2. Damage and theft. We do NOT have a damage or theft policy that covers your equipment. Please consider your own insurance needs.
      3. Non compete. You agree that during your membership and for a period of five (5) years following the termination of your membership, you will not directly or indirectly engage in a similar business or profession within Tasmania. This includes, but is not limited to, starting or operating a coworking space, providing shared workspace, or offering related services to individuals or businesses. In the event of a breach we may seek damages, or any other appropriate legal remedy.
      4. No solicitation. You will not directly or indirectly solicit or encourage any member of the to terminate their membership or engage in business with a competing coworking space or shared workspace provider.

    10. Guests
      1. We want you to treat the space like it’s your own. You should feel comfortable bringing clients in for meetings, showing your friends around, and giving your mum a tour of the space. Our guest policy is based on fair use of the space and being respectful of the impact guests have on other people in the space.
      2. A “guest” is anyone you bring into the space who is not explicitly identified on your membership plan.
      3. You accept legal responsibility for your guest(s).
      4. You must supervise your guests at all times. Really at all times. It’s uncomfortable for other members when apparent strangers are in the space alone.
      5. You must get approval from us before bringing any guest into the space for more than a few hours at a time.
      6. If you do want to bring guests into the space for extended periods of time please request our ‘Buddy Day’ policy. A $55 cost per Buddy Day fee applies.

    11. The law
      1. The space is not to be used for illegal activities. You accept full responsibility and completely indemnify Parliament of all liability.
      2. Any form of racism, sexism, intolerance to LGBTIQ+ rights, or harassment is strictly prohibited.

    12. Termination
      1. We reserve the right to terminate your use of the space due to unforeseen circumstances, at which point we specify an overriding End Date. In this event you will be charged pro-rata for your use of the space and any credit will be refunded.
      2. If you fail to adhere to the terms of this document we have the right to terminate your use of and access to the space. In this event you must return your keys, vacate all your equipment from the space and pay any outstanding debits within seven days of us issuing notification of termination. You will also be liable for all recurring monthly payments until the End Date.

    13. Changes and Revisions
      1. This agreement may be updated from time to time to make clarifications or adjustments with respect to all conditions, including but not limited to changes in payment terms, use of the space, and duration of use.
