Traveling outside of the country can be a hassle, but it’s important to have all of your bases covered before you leave—especially if you’re taking your pet with you! An international health certificate shows that your pet meets all of the health requirements of the country you will be visiting. You will need to have your pet vaccinated and begin researching the required tests for your travels as soon as possible. The USDA-APHIS office state veterinarian issued health certificate needs to be completed within exact time frame based on the country of destinations requirements.
It is critical for the correct documentation to be provided and filled out for the Doctor to complete at the time of the health certificate appointment. This may involve contacting previous veterinarians for prior vaccinations and vaccine certificates. Some countries require signed original rabies certificates to meet the requirements. Completing this questionnaire will help us bettter assist you with making the appointment and certificate completion go as smoothly as possible.
***Please note, completetion of this electronic form for Purrfurably Cats is not completing all of the necessary paperwork for the health certificate. YOU must confirm that all documentation is completed by following the instructions listed on the APHIS website. All research for needed vaccines, lab testing and certificates is the responsibility of the owner and not the staff of Purrfurably Cats. If the necessary documentation for the health certificate has not been completed and provided at the time of your appointment, Purrfurably Cats will need to reschedule the health certificate appointment until the documentation has been completed for your travels.***
To begin, go to the USDA-APHIS website https://www.aphis.usda.gov/aphis/pet-travel to see these requirements by selecting your destination country in the dropdown list, then clicking “View Requirements.” Then locate the forms needed to “export” your pet and print them out, along with the instructions provided. Read all of these instructions very carefully, and be sure to look into the health requirements of surrounding countries in case of a flight layover. Airlines may have different requirements than the USDA & Country that you may be visiting, please make sure that you are also double checking with your airline.
