The Red Oak ISD Education Foundation Board of Directors is looking for qualified applicants! Director positions are open to citizens and/or business owners that want to contribute to Red Oak ISD by serving with the Red Oak Education Foundation and bringing awareness as well as resources to their purpose and mission. The Red Oak ISD Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit tax-exempt philanthropic organization of citizens; shares a vision of enhancing education in Red Oak ISD; works to increase private support for educational activities in Red Oak ISD; benefits Red Oak ISD students and staff by supporting activities not funded by tax dollars; fosters innovative and creative approaches to education through private grants and involvement; awards Foundation funds through a volunteer Board of Directors made up of business, community and educational leaders; reserves funds for and makes an effort to grow an endowment to ensure the future stability of the Foundation.
The Red Oak ISD Education Foundation was created to support the educational programs for both the students and staff of the Red Oak Independent School District. The Foundation provides funds for educational programs and activities which are not funded by the normal operating budget. These funds are used to facilitate student achievement and skill development, to recognize and encourage staff excellence and to expand community involvement from individuals, business and civic organizations.
Role of Directors
Foundation directors should have a genuine interest in the mission and goals of the Foundation and be willing to use personal time, influence and specialized or professional knowledge for the benefit of the students and staff that will be supported through the Foundation’s work.
Responsibilities of Directors
Serve as ambassadors of good will for the Foundation and carry the Foundation message to groups or individuals.
Accept positions of responsibility in the Foundation and assist in the enlistment of volunteers as needed to carry out the work of the Foundation. Directors as asked to serve on committee and be prepared to report on committee activity at each board meeting.
Cultivate and solicit prospects for charitable giving within the mission and goals established for the Foundation.
Assist in evaluating applications submitted to the Foundation board and in recommending grant awards.
Attend meetings regularly to insure effective functioning of the Foundation. The board usually meets on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 12:00pm at the Education Foundation office at 205 W. Ovilla Rd., Red Oak. There are ten regular scheduled meetings a year. (There are a few exceptions with the 2nd Tuesday due to scheduling.)
Board members should be influential outstanding citizens, exemplary in business, community, and education service, and of the highest moral character and ethical standards. Due to the close relationship between the Foundation and the Red Oak ISD, it is imperative that the Board Members are compatible with Red Oak ISD policies, goals, operations, and administrative staff.
Board members will be expected to make a personal contribution to the ROISD Education Foundation (minimum amount not required).
Board members should serve on one standing committee and participate on at least one event committee.
