Welcome to Royal Family KIDS Grants Pass!
Here's some info you'll want to know before you fill out your application!
First of all, thank you!
Thank you for your willingness to be considered for a volunteer position at this summer's camp, July 25 through 30, 2021. Your desire to serve vulnerable children is inspiring! Over 10,000 volunteers are joining you in this work this summer at our camps throughout the world. We hope that this camp experience is a life changing week for you as much as it is for our campers.
The governor's restrictions on summer camps in 2021 are still evolving, and may include a ban on overnight camps as last year, or may allow overnight camps with restrictions. Thus, we are planning and preparing for our normal, overnight camp as well as a day camp model as we did in 2020, and when guidelines are finalized this summer, we'll be ready for either.
Roles at camp
Our camp volunteers comprise people ages 16 all the way up to 90. Regardless of whether we are able to do an overnight camp or a day camp, the camp roles will remain much the same. Counselors will be paired with 1-2 campers and will have support from relief counselors. Our support staff will remain much the same and include photographers, drama team, puppet team, worship team, coach, activity center leaders, nurses, janitorial staff, media team, a Child Professional (professionally licensed counselor, social worker, etc.), and more. We even have grandparents and aunts and uncles. If any of these positions interest you, let us know in your application.
Some info on our volunteer screening process:
For the protection of campers who have experienced abuse in their lives, we have rigorous systems in place for all volunteers. Your application process will include an interview (new and lapsed volunteers only), criminal background check, Child Welfare background check, three reference checks and 12 hours of training for new or lapsed volunteers or 8 for returning volunteers. If you have questions or concerns about any of this, please let us know.
Because of the uniqueness and intensity of this ministry with children of abuse, not all applicants are accepted. If you have had history of sexual or violent offenses that involve children, you will not be considered for a volunteer position.
Filling out the application:
As you look through the application you will notice that we require a variety of specific information, all of which we consider necessary for the best selection of the most effective volunteers who can work together in this unique ministry. Therefore, please complete the entire application.
We recommend doing this on a computer and not on a smartphone.
For applicants under the age of 18, please complete this application with a parent or guardian, as their signature is required at the end of this application.
We recognize that in some cases sensitive and confidential information is required. We value your confidentiality and strive to limit access of all written and verbal information you may provide to those who need to know.
About our faith:
We are a faith-based organization and in both the application and the interview we will ask you about your church involvement and personal spirituality. Our goal is to provide children an atmosphere of care and love within the context of Christian truth and compassion. It is not required that you be a member of any church, but as a volunteer, you need to understand that Christian beliefs and values will inevitably be evident in the selection process and operation of this camp.
Who we are:
This camp is operated as a program of the Community Bridges Foundation and is sponsored by Parkway Christian Center. As such, all volunteers will fall under the authority of the Camp Leadership as trained by the RFK National office and under the authority and beliefs of the Foundation and Church.
Info on camp training:
Everyone must complete training, and there are no exceptions. New or lapsed (those who have missed one or more camps) volunteers will complete 12 hours, and all returning volunteers will complete 8 hours. New and lapsed volunteers will complete 4 hours of training online.
Training is scheduled for June 19 and July 10 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Parkway Christian Center.
Should you have any questions, please contact Allison McLain at firstname.lastname@example.org or (541) 237-8010.
Once again, thank-you for completing an application to be a volunteer at Royal Family KIDS Camp.
