    Concept Note

  • PART 1: ELIGIBILITY

  • You must be headquartered in an eligible country. Being headquartered is more than just having a local registration. We only fund organisations which have their main operations in eligible countries and can define their own strategy, brand identity and governance fully independently from international organisations headquartered in the Global North.

    If the country is not on the list, you are NOT eligible.

  • 2. I confirm my organisation is a non-profit civil society organisation or network.*

  • SAAF only funds non-profit civil society organisations or networks. SAAF does NOT fund:

    - Individuals                                                                                                               

    - Government Departments and Agencies

    - University Departments

    - For-Profit Organisations

    - UN Agencies

    - Branches, Affiliates, or Local Offices of International Organisations (even if registered in an eligible country)

  • 3. My organisation is legally registered.*

  • A legal registration is not required. But if your organisation is not registered, you will need a fiscal sponsor. A fiscal sponsor is a registered organisation that will sign the contract on the applicant´s behalf. The fiscal sponsor must be based in one of the eligible countries (preferably in the same country as the applicant).

  • While organisations of all income levels are eligible, SAAF mainly funds small and medium size organisations .

  • If ‘NO’, you can continue with the application, but we advise that you plan to hire a dedicated finance officer if awarded the grant.

  • If you do not have a bank account in the name of the organisation you can still apply, but you will need to open one to be able to receive SAAF funds.

  • 22. When was the last time your organisation was externally audited?*

  • It is not mandatory to have undergone an audit in the past, but if you receive SAAF funds you will need to have organisational audits every year.

  • 23. How much experience does your organisation have in working with abortion issues?*

  • It is fine if your organisation has not worked on abortion issues before as SAAF can offer support.

  • SAAF recognises that systemic change may require investing in learning, capacity building and organisational strengthening. This is a reminder that SAAF can fund well-defined results in this area as well, in addition to your work with communities, institutions or decision-makers.
