  • Seeing a need in the community to proactively reach young girls in a fun and engaging environment, the St. Louis Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. created the Delta Twinkles program for girls ages 6-10.

The principal objective of Delta Twinkles is exemplified through the P.E.A.R.L.S. acronym:

    P – Promoting

    E – Education

    A – Arts

    R – Responsibility

    L – Leadership

    S – Service

Through our P.E.A.R.L.S. for Girls initiative, each session includes a teaching and service component to promote learning and helping others.  Our motto is “Twinkles Changing the World by Volunteering, Participating and Giving”.  By providing girls with an opportunity to give of themselves at a young age, we hope to develop a lifelong appreciation for community and service.

    Promoting Education

This program is full of opportunities for girls to expand their knowledge base.  Components like Black History and STEM Awareness provide the chance to learn new and exciting things, beyond what they could imagine.  One activity even offered them a chance to personally meet astronaut John Higginbotham—a member of Delta Sigma Theta—and learn about careers in science and technology.

    Arts and Responsibility

Our monthly meetings are always full of activities involving creative arts.  Field trips to local attractions occur each year.  We apply the lessons from the Kwanzaa principles in our annual “adoption” of a deserving family through a connection with Better Family Life.

    Leadership and Service

We are training our girls to become great achievers.  Each session has a community service aspect, providing opportunities for all to build self-esteem while the older girls learn leadership skills in modeling responsible
