Entries
- An official entry form is required for all entries.
- Wherever relevant, a score should be submitted (sheet music, graphic score, audio score, video score, etc). Digital formats are preferred. Please do NOT include the composer's name, the title of the work, or the movement names on or within the score.
- For sonic art entries, a recording/audio file is compulsory. For all other entries, a recording is welcomed wherever possible (mp3 preferred). Performance standards will not play a part in the judging.
- Videos will not be accepted unless they form an intrinsic part of the work (e.g., the visual component of a sound and video installation, a video score, etc). In general, videos of live performances of concert music will not be accepted. If you have questions about this, please contact SOUNZ at info@sounz.org.nz.
The entry form and all supporting materials must be received (electronically preferred) no later than midnight (11:59 pm) on Wednesday, 15 May 2024.
Conditions
- Not more than two works may be submitted by, or on behalf of, any one composer for the SOUNZ Contemporary Award | Te Tohu Auaha category, except in the case of co-written works where a composer may be included in entries for each separate band/artist that they collaborate with. A separate entry form is to be completed for each work.
- For the purposes of this award, ‘composer’ is defined as the writer of the music, not the writer of the words/lyrics.
- The SOUNZ Contemporary Award | Te Tohu Auaha is judged anonymously. Materials entered for the award must NOT display the composer's name, the title of the work, the movement names or any other identifying information. However, a brief description of the work (including any concepts that are key to the understanding of the work) may be provided.
- The date of the first public performance (including installations and streaming performances) of the entered work — along with the name of the venue, station, channel or website where it was performed (or alternatively the first professional recording of the work) — MUST be notified.
- The winner will be announced at the APRA Silver Scroll Awards in 2024, date TBC.
- In the event of more than one composer having collaborated in composing the winning work, the cash award will be allocated between the composers as per the APRA work registration.
- Unless specifically requested, the copies of recordings submitted shall be retained by APRA AMCOS. Copies of recordings and scores submitted for the SOUNZ Contemporary Award | Te Tohu Auaha may be retained by SOUNZ, for lodgement in the Centre for New Zealand Music library.
- The entrant shall (or shall cause the copyright owner of the entry if different from the entrant) permit APRA AMCOS and any person APRA AMCOS authorises to perform the entry in and as part of any APRA AMCOS award ceremony and to record it for those purposes and for the purposes of communication to the public or promotional use.
- The entrant agrees to allow APRA AMCOS to use audio and video from the APRA Silver Scroll Awards for promotional purposes.
- APRA AMCOS will have the right to print the name and likenesses of any entrant in publicity in respect of the competition and all matters incidental thereto.
- The entrant agrees to be bound by APRA AMCOS’ entry procedures, and rules and regulations established in this entry form.
- APRA AMCOS shall have the right to interpret the entry conditions and to determine all issues arising out of this contest. Any such interpretations and determinations shall be final.
- SOUNZ may in its absolute discretion accept an entry outside the eligibility period because of special circumstance. For example, when a composition is completed and professionally recorded but not made available for reasons beyond the composer's control, this may qualify as a special circumstance.
- The winner and finalists are decided by a jury convened by SOUNZ. The judges' decision is final and binding. No correspondence will be entered into.
- Final entry is at the absolute discretion of SOUNZ.
- The entrant is to ensure that all information given on the entry form is true and correct.
