Volunteer role overview;
Within the premises of The Sherriff Centre we have a project called Food Share. The project gives out food parcels to clients who have been referred to us and we have space for surplus food that is donated from our community, for example, Gails Bakery. The surplus food is freely available for anyone to take.
What are the sessions;
Clients book in with us to come and collect their food parcels and the volunteers role is to meet one-on-one with these clients and help them select the items for their food parcel, package the items and provide it to the recipient.
There will also be time before and after the session to inventory the items available for distribution, report any items with low inventory, and tidy our food storage area.
These sessions take place within the seated area of The Sherriff Centre, which is in full view of other staff. Volunteers would never be left alone with clients.
Where;
The Sherriff Centre located in St James Church at 2 Sherriff Rd, London NW6 2AP (West Hampstead, London)
When;
Sessions to give out our food parcels will take place every Tuesday morning for two hours (made up of six slots that last for 20 minutes maximum) from 10 a.m to 12 p.m.
Prior to the distribution session, volunteers will take 15-20 minutes to inventory the items available for distribution and update the sheet that clients will use to select their items.
Following the two-hour long distribution session, volunteers will spend 10-15 minutes tidying up the shed and reporting any items with low inventory and providing feedback on the day's sessions. In total each volunteer session will last approximately 2 1/2 hours.
We request that volunteers commit to at least one session per month.
Who;
Anyone over the age of 18 who would like to help The Sherriff Centre serve its community by providing food parcels to people in need.
Please note that volunteers will need to submit to a DBS check (paid for by The Sherriff Centre).
