Charm City Opera Retreat is a two-week intensive that will provide participants the opportunity to polish their audition package, receive in-depth coaching on languages, dramatic expression, and musicianship, and build a peer & mentorship network for ongoing support in their career.
To be eligible, applicants must consider the following:
- BE EARLY CAREER CLASSICAL SINGERS over the age of 18 who are in the process of growing their career and do not have representation, sponsorship or mainstage contracts with major companies.
- RESIDE IN GREATER BALTIMORE REGION (Maryland, DC, WV, DE) and would benefit from access to a locally accessible young artist training program.
- BE WILLING TO SCHEDULE TIME AUGUST 2 to 15 to participate in 90% of CCOR activities. Scheduling will primarily be in the afternoons/evenings.
- HAVE RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION to-and-from Baltimore between August 2 to 15, 2025. Activities will be held at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, An die Musik, and via Zoom.
- HAVE MEMORIZED REPERTOIRE that is relevant to the opera field (arias, MT, oratorio) and that they would like to record for auditions and digital portfolios.
THERE ARE NO UPPER AGE LIMITS. We expect the majority of participants will be 22+. THERE ARE NO DEGREE REQUIREMENTS. We expect applicants to have had formal voice training in technique, diction and repertoire and an interest in advancing their knowledge/skill to a professional level.
$850 Tuition** includes the following:
- 1 professional audio-video recording session (minimum 2 videos)
- 1 public performance
- 1 masterclass performance with one of the following faculty (all participants may observe)
- Dr. Matteo Dalle Fratte, The Melofonetica Method of Italian Diction
- Dr. Teri Bickham, University of Maryland School of Music, voice faculty
- Jillian Page, founder of Meisner in Music, drama technique
- Dr. Erin Eberle, physical therapist specializing in jaw/TMJ and pelvic floor
- 3 individual language coachings (ltalian Melofonetica Method; French; German)
- 4 individual piano coachings (same assigned pianist for concert and recordings)
- 1 myofascial release group class with Dr. Madeline Miskie, Windsong Studio
- 2 peer-led studio classes
- 2 physical training group sessions with Erin Eberle, DPT
- All 10 virtual workshops, including recordings if you cannot attend live
**Please note that tuition may go down. We are working tirelessly to make this program as low cost as possible, comsidering that comparable programs are $2000+ plus out of state transport/housing/food. When fundraising and grant decisions have been finalized for this 2025 season, we will offer scholarships to participants, as possible.**

- 20-minute vocal health screening with Mairin Srygley, CCC-SLP (FREE)
- 20-minute headshots/portraits session with Britt Olsen-Ecker ($75)
- 30-minute community acupuncture at Mend Acupuncture ($30)
- 60-minute massage with Erin Eberle, DPT ($80)
