  • Baptism Preparation

You have indicated that your child has not yet been baptised in the Catholic Church, but that you wish to present them for First Holy Communion.

A member of our Parish Team will be in contact with you to discuss what needs to happen next - this will usually be preparation for baptism or for admission into the Catholic Church if your child has already been baptised in another Christian denomination.

  • Holy Communion in the Catholic Church

The Sacrament of Holy Communion is reserved to those who choose to be members of the Catholic Church by baptism or conversion. It carries with it a commitment to the Catholic faith, so it is not our practice that members of other Christian Communities or other Faiths receive Holy Communion.

This means that when children are presented for First Holy Communion that they either have already received Catholic baptism or are part of a family with at least one Catholic parent who is willing to support their child in receiving baptism or admission into the Catholic faith.

We welcome members of other Christian Communities and other Faiths to join in prayer and celebration with us, but out of respect for a family's own religion and the practices of our own Church, we cannot admit a child to communion without a commitment to the Catholic Faith.

Our school chaplains are willing to meet parents and discuss this in more detail.

  • PROOF OF BAPTISM

    Please note that

    1. If your child was baptised at the Church of the Purificiation, Churchill or St Joseph's Oratory, Fenit, you will probably not need to provide a certificate as proof of baptism can be found in our parish records.

    2. If your child was baptised elsewhere, a Baptism Certificate is required. If you do not already have one, it can be obtained from the parish where your child was baptised. We will make contact with you either through your child's school or directly to get a copy of the baptism certificate.

  • PROOF OF BAPTISM

     1. If your child was baptised at St John's, Immaculate Conception, Rathass or Curraheen Church, you will probably not need to provide a certificate as proof of baptism can be found in our parish records.

    2. If your child was baptised elsewhere, a Baptism Certificate is required. If you do not already have one, it can be obtained from the parish where your child was baptised. We will be in touch with you - either through your child's school or directly - to collect a copy of the cert from you.
