PROOF OF BAPTISM
Proof of baptism is necessary before confirmation can be received.
1. If your child was baptised in this parish (St John's Castle Street, Immaculate Conception, Rathass or St Brendan's Church, Curraheen) then a baptism certificate should not be needed as the date of baptism should allow us to certify the baptism from our own parish records.
2. If your child was baptised outside this parish, then you are required to supply a copy of your child's baptism certificate. We will be in touch either directly or through your child's school.
3. If your child is not baptised, we will be in contact with you to discuss preparation for baptism.
Confirmation is a sacrament that we receive only once in our lives. Sometimes children are confirmed as infants due to grave illness or because it is the custom to confirm children at the time of baptism in some parts of the Catholic Church. If this is the case, it should be recorded on your child's baptism record.
If you have any doubt or confusion about this, we would be happy to discuss it with you.
