  • 2026 TAAHP Foundation Scholarship Application

  • Purpose:

    The Texas Affiliation of Affordable Housing Providers (TAAHP) Foundation, in partnership with the TAAHP Scholarship Committee, awards scholarships to support students who actively reside in eligible affordable housing properties owned or operated by TAAHP members. Scholarships are intended to help student residents pursue their educational and career goals and are funded through TAAHP member support and fundraising activities.

    Eligibility Requirements:

    • Reside in an affordable housing community owned or operated by a TAAHP member (residency in a restricted unit will be verified).
    • Have a household income below 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI).
    • Be one of the following:
      • A high school senior planning to attend a vocational, trade, technical school, community college, or university (acceptance letter required), or
      • A GED holder planning to attend a vocational, trade, technical school, community college, or university (acceptance letter required), or
      • A currently enrolled student at a vocational, trade, technical school, community college, or university (proof of enrollment required).

    Note: Students are encouraged to apply regardless of GPA, provided they are in good academic standing.

    IMPORTANT! These items are required for this scholarship application to be considered complete. Applications received without these will not be considered for scholarship awards.
  • Email or statement from property manager confirming residency, good standing, and whether unit is income restricted

    Academic Documentation (submit ONLY one)

    • Copy of GED Certificate
    • Current official vocational, technical, or college transcript

    Letters of Recommendation
    Submit two (2) signed letters of recommendation from someone familiar with your character, service, and achievements such as a teacher, professor, counselor, administrator, principal, coach, community member, professor, academic advisor, supervisor for recent or current job etc.

    1. Letters must be written, dated, and signed by the recommender.
    2. Letters must be current and prepared specifically for the 2026 TAAHP Foundation Scholarship; previously used or generic letters will not be accepted.
    3. Letters must be written by individuals who are familiar with the applicant’s character, academic effort, workethic, leadership, or community involvement
    4. Letters may not be written by a relative, guardian, or member of the applicant’s household.
    5. Letters must include the recommender’s name, title/role, and contact information
    6. Letters must be signed by the recommender (digital or handwritten signatures are acceptable)
    7. Letters must be confidential and may not be edited or altered by the applicant.

    Essay Topic & Guidelines

    Please describe the achievements or experiences that have been most meaningful to you and explain how receiving this scholarship would support your educational and career goals. As part of your response, you are encouraged to reflect on how living in affordable housing or maintaining stable housing has shaped your educational journey, opportunities, or responsibilities. Your essay should help the Scholarship Committee understand who you are, what you have worked toward, and how this award would make a difference in your academic journey. You may choose to discuss academic accomplishments, work experience, leadership roles, community involvement, personal challenges you have overcome, caregiving responsibilities, or other experiences that have shaped your goals and motivation. Applicants are encouraged to share any special circumstances that have influenced their educational path or required them to balance school with work, family, or other responsibilities. You may also choose to describe any challenges or hardships you have experienced, such as financial hardships, housing instability, balancing school with work or caregiving, or other circumstances that have influenced your path. Applicants who have previously received a TAAHP Foundation Scholarship and are applying again should also describe how prior scholarship support impacted their education and progress toward their goals.

    * Please note - scholarship awardees may be invited to provide a video recorded interview for scholarship promotion at various TAAHP events.
