When you’re working to provide individualized supports for each person, it’s critical that you can interact with the person effectively. Whether it’s verbal, non-verbal, visual, or written … everyone communicates! The challenge can be in identifying individual communication preferences and styles, and then embracing that medium or method so you can improve services.
In this training titled ‘Exploring Communication,’ participants will learn about discovering, understanding, and engaging through various forms of communication, so they can better support people with disabilities who receive services.
During the session, CQL shares an overview of communication, explores unique communication methods, and offers action steps for better understanding people who use various forms of communication. Attendees will receive guidance, tips, and information about using senses, observation skills, technology, and more to enhance individualized supports and services. After leaving this training, your organization and your staff will be better equipped to engage in creating meaningful interactions with the people supported.
