We’re all aware of the critical issues impacting the direct support professional (DSP) workforce, but seeing the numbers is startling. According to the 2022 State of the Workforce Survey Report from NCI, the workforce experiences a 40.9% average turnover ratio, a 15.3% average vacancy rate for full-time DSPs, a 17.9% average vacancy rate for part-time DSPs, and a median hourly wage of $15.98. On top of that, the respondents report that on average, just 20.6% have DSPs involved in agency governance, 28.2% have a DSP career ladder, 56.1% require training beyond the state requirements, and 63.7% have a recognition program.
In the virtual training ‘Supporting DSPs Through Organizational Initiatives,’ we’re addressing all of these issues directly. Attendees will hear about a host of programs that different organizations across the country have put in place to confront DSP workforce issues. CQL will share initiatives they have observed to be successful in reducing turnover, recruiting employees, advancing career development, acknowledging the contributions of DSPs, and more!
