Post-Secondary Scholarship Application

Criteria & Information
Criteria

Scholarship applications are reviewed by The Children’s Foundation staff to ensure that applicants meet the eligibility criteria, but the applications are scored by the Awards Committee. This Awards Committee is made up of 5-10 associates of the Foundation, including Board members, a youth committee representative, a foster parent representative, and TCF donors. Scholarship applications are scored on Individual Attributes, Academic Goals and Financial Need.

Scholarship application forms, transcripts, and references are due no later than April 30th, 2025.

To apply for a scholarship, students must submit the following documents:

·         Scholarship application

·         Your latest academic (unofficial or official) transcript

· Reference form submitted by a school counselor, teacher, coach, etc.

·         Before receiving the scholarship, proof of acceptance needs to be submitted by the 15th of the preceding month before your term begins.

SCHOLARSHIP Eligibility

To be eligible for a scholarship, applicants must be:
- impacted by low income or hardship and have overcome hurdles to be in the position they are today and require help to pursue a post-secondary education.
- a student who lives in one of these 3 areas (before attending school, and/or when not attending school)
  - Hastings County
  - Northumberland County
  - Prince Edward County
Applicant must be:
- Under 26 years of age at the start of their current school program, or under 30 years of age if they have received a scholarship or bursary funding from The Children’s Foundation for the same program in previous years
- Registered at or planning to attend school either full time for a full academic year at an accredited post-secondary school or trade school
- Scholarship applications are reviewed by The Children’s Foundation staff to ensure that applicants meet the eligibility criteria. Scholarships are awarded based on financial need and academic achievement.
- Before receiving a scholarship, proof of acceptance needs to be submitted by the 15th of the preceding month before your term begins.

Conditions for accepting a Children's Foundation Scholarship
BEFORE STARTING YOUR APPLICATION, PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

The deadline for submitting this scholarship application is April 30, 2025. If awarded, payments are made twice per academic year. Acceptance proof needs to be submitted by the 15th of the preceding month before your term begins.

Scholarship award funding will be made directly to the post-secondary institution. Payment is to be returned to The Children’s Foundation if you withdraw from the program within 1 month.

A personal reference form is required to accompany all first-time Scholarship applicants. Your reference will need to fill out this form.

Information in this application is confidential. Submitted applications will be read by The Children’s Foundation staff and/or TCF Board of Directors and/or selected committee members. Non-identifying information about you may be shared with scholarship donors after recipients are matched with an award. All recipients are encouraged to attend The Children’s Foundation’s Reach for Success Award event on June 19, 2025, at The Grand, Belleville to receive the first half of your award. You may be asked to be photographed with the donor of your award. These photographs are used for Children’s Foundation marketing materials and are optional.

To apply for the Reach for Success Scholarships offered by The Children's Foundation, a reference from a notable individual in the applicant's life is required.

This reference should provide the selection committee with a comprehensive understanding of how the bursary award will affect the student's education journey.

We encourage you to provide a thorough and comprehensive explanation that showcases the student's strengths, goals, and potential in order to present a well-rounded picture of the candidate's potential.
