Volunteering at The Kind Farm Inc. Horse Rescue

The Kind Farm Inc. are committed to helping horses who have no other hope. Rescued from slaughter or neglect, these horses are often timid, traumatized, and not always in great health and condition. Are you okay with seeing horses like this and be capable of keeping a positive mindset around them, as horses pick up on people's feelings?

A usual volunteer session is 3 hours and will include a combination of hands-on and physical work, including:

    • Paddock Cleaning: Mucking out paddocks and shelters, which involves lifting manure with a fork and walking it to a designated pile.
    • Horse care including: Grooming horses, leading horses, holding horses whilst they are getting feet trimmed or health care.
    • Fencing: Assisting with basic fencing tasks, such as using a hammer and light lifting.
    • Horse Rehabilitation: Providing gentle handling and support to help the horses on their journey to recovery.
    • General Farm Maintenance: Helping with organizing, cleaning, and maintaining farm facilities to keep everything running smoothly.
    • Rescue Trips & Mission Support: Assisting with horse rescue including welcoming new horses.

We will endeavour to have at least 50% horse time .

There is no horse experience necessary to volunteer. We do ask that you are great at following instructions and that you come with an open mind and an open heart. We have exceptional results in rehabilitating horses both physically and emotionally. We'd love help doing what we do – even if you have decades of horse experience, you will be expected to handle horses in our kind, gentle, and effective ways.

    Important Notes:

Commitment: We rely on our volunteers and ask that you arrive on time as for any session you commit to. We cannot accommodate volunteers who do not show up without prior notice. Do not bring pets, friends, family or children with you.

Rescheduling: At times, weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances may require us to reschedule your visit. If this occurs, we will notify you the day before. If you can not attend, please give 24 hours notice where possible.

If this sounds like a match for you, please fill out this form. Email questions if you are not sure of anything, please and read the safety documents on our website.

    With love and thanks,
    Lucinda

Are you comfortable seeing emaciated animals, open wounds, handling smelly hooves and picking up manure? If not, that's ok - in the future we will have grooming and connecting days that you can attend.

Is there anything we need to be aware of to keep experiences safe and suitable? This may be allergies or a preference not to see animals in pain or open wounds. It could be outlining that you can not lift things, or that you regularly would need to reschedule due to work, emotional, or transport situations. Please tell us so we are aware.
