Volunteering at The Kind Farm Inc. Horse Rescue

Hi and thanks for getting in touch.

The Kind Farm Inc. are committed to helping horses who have no other hope. Rescued from slaughter or neglect, these horses are often timid, traumatized, and not always in great health and condition. Are you okay with seeing horses like this and be capable of keeping a positive mindset around them, as horses pick up on people's feelings?

We have a very structured volunteer program designed to benefit the horses. You are allocated one paddock and the horses rely on you to keep their shelters and paddocks clean.

You need to committ to coming at least once a week, rain or shine, for 2 hours. You also need to have horse experience and demonstrate this at our induction. You need to be comfortable catching a horse. leading a horse and moving amongst a herd, identifying unsafe situations and know how to stay safe.

Your horse experience is to keep you safe. You are required to interact with horses in OUR WAY. There is no shaking ropes, teaching horses manners and boundaries. If you are calm and respectful - they are calm and respectful.

Depending on your experience, this would be paddock mucking out and, checking, cleaning water and grooming (depending on the horse).

Please have a think about this, read on and ONLY FILL IN THIS FORM if you are interested and whether you can genuinely find the time.

After the induction and when you are familiar with horses and paddock, you could choose the times you come and work independently if we all agree it is safe for you to  do so.

Because The Kind Farm Inc is run day to day by mostly myself, and we are across some different properties (most in main arm near store), there are very definite guidelines to keep you safe, the horses safe and respect the generous land owners who host the horses on their private land.

 
These guidelines are non negotiable and include:

• Working with horses in OUR GENTLE, relationship centred WAY. We do not do discipline, project emotions onto horses or other forms of verbal abuse (for example - saying a horse is psycho, has little man syndrome, or is being "marey").  In alignment sith effective and modern horsemanship, we endeavour to meet the horses' needs so they are in their natural harmonious, curious state.
• Listening to instructions
• Respecting what you are asked to do
• Not bringing friends or children unless previously agreed.
• Respecting peace and privacy of people living in houses or staying in retreats.
• Not doing anything with horses other than agreed specifically
• Not feeding the horses - no feed, no treats.
• Asking permission before taking photos
• Asking permission before sharing photos

This is a new concept for the kind farm and the idea is to welcome people to form long-term relationships with horses and keep their paddocks clean. It is also so you can work autonomously alowing us to care for horses as needed. If you are interested, we can meet and discuss further.

Please let me know any questions, whether you are interested and can committ ongoing,  as well as the times you anticipate you could come each week. Set days and times are ideal, especially in the beginning.

If you committ to come weekly, I realise that most people need 4-6 weeks off a year. In which case we can get another volunteer to cover you.

If it's not for you - there will be othere opportunities in the future when we have our own farm.

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT HORSE CARE, TRAINING AND RESCUE AND BEING ON A FARM ARE DANGEROUS ACTIVITIES

Please read the following carefully.

I understand and acknowledge that:

Horse care and rescue is a dangerous activity and people are injured doing it.
Horses can act in an unpredictable or changeable way especially if frightened or hurt.
Horses can kick at you or other horses, especially around food.
The ground can be rough, slippery and uneven especially after wet weather.
A horse could kick me or run into me.
A horse could bite you.
Horses can have contagious viruses and diseases.
There are unfenced dams, creeks, fallen and falling trees on the property.
Machinery used on the property is dangerous.
Your clothing and footwear will likely get muddy and possibly damaged.
Your vehicle may get muddy, dirty or messy from horse food.
There are many other general dangers.
Injury or death may arise from these dangerous activities.
All horses are individual and no horse is 100% safe.

I agree that:

I care for horses and engage in all volunteer activities at my own risk.
The charity and all other members of The Kind Farm Inc are not liable for any injury, death, loss or damage which may occur to me or to my property during the time I spend on the property/s and care for horses whether such liability arises out of any express or implied term or at common law or in any other way.
I will pay due regard for the safety of other people, volunteers and land owners and users.
I will always wear suitable clothes.
I will not put myself in a dangerous position - including not standing behind a horse.

I agree that while I am on any property caring for horses that I will not:

Take or use any drug except prescription drugs.
Drink alcohol before or during horse care activities.
Enter any enclosed paddock unless requested, directed or supervised by an employee or instructor.
Undertake any activity that you have not been asked to do'
Use any equipment you have not been asked to use
Feed any goods or administer any medical care without the consent of the kind farm inc
Undertake any activity I am not skilled and confident in.
Ride any horses
Allow any friends or family or other people to participate in the kind farm inc horse care and rescue activities or assist without the prior consent of the kind farm inc
Hit any horse, use any whip or frighten or hurt them in any way.
Purchase anything expecting reimbursement without prior approval

I acknowledge that I have read and fully understand the meaning of this form. I understand that by participating in any capacity including as a participant or volunteer, that I give a complete and unconditional release of all liability of the proprietors, charity and employees of The Kind Farm Inc to the greatest extent possible under the law of New South Wales in the event I and/or the child mentioned above suffer any death, personal injury or loss or damage of possessions.

I agree to indemnify the proprietors/ instructors and employees of The Kind Farm Incorporated against all claims made by any other person against the proprietors/ instructors and employees of The Kind Farm Incorporated in respect of any injury loss or damage arising out of or in connection with riding and being a guest on the farm.

By making a booking and/or volunteering, I acknowledge that I have read, understand and agree to abide by all the conditions and requirements in this agreement.

I take full responsibility for my own safety at all times.
I take full responsibility for my activities.
