Counselor In Training (CIT) Program Goal
Any individual aged 14+ is eligible to be a Tiverton Summer Camp CIT. Youth volunteers will be provided with the opportunity to participate in a career and volunteer development program consisting of leadership and service activities. They will be given essential guidance and a support system designed to help youth examine the values inherent in human service, either as a career or a volunteer pursuit.
The CIT program is about more than extending the fun of being a camper — it's about making the transition from participant to leader. CITs will develop the practical skills, responsibilities, and professional habits that define a successful Counselor: communication, problem-solving, patience, and the ability to support and inspire the children in their care. This is a meaningful step in a young person's growth, and we take that responsibility seriously.
Each CIT will be provided with CIT staff uniforms. The Recreation Commission does not provide CITs with registration for field trips, but they are available to CITs for $15 per trip, including transportation. There is no fee to participate in the CIT program.
