The USTA Southwest Section will honor, in those rare instances when very special circumstances warrant such an award, a person for participation in tennis activities and growing the game in distinctive ways after overcoming extraordinary life changing experiences.
PURPOSE: This unique award will only be given in the most exceptional of circumstances, to honor an individual who has continued to play, coach, teach, and/or volunteer for the sport of tennis…supporting their local tennis community and/or USTA Southwest…after overcoming adversity and/or unique difficulties in their personal life that are extremely out of the ordinary.

CRITERIA: In addition to those descriptors already articulated in the introductory paragraph and purpose, other traits to be considered:

1. Dedicated and determined in the pursuit of their life dreams, including tennis

2. Current USTA Member

3. Optimistic and hopeful after overcoming incredible setbacks (beyond normal athletic injuries)

4. Demonstrated strong character and will

5. Hard working

6. Their good spirit serves as a beacon of hope for others to emulate

Note: It is not anticipated that this award would necessarily be given annually, but saved for issuance in only very special occasions; thus, areas need only submit nominations when they have identified a truly astonishing candidate.
