Thank you for your interest in applying to become a member of the Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Center. In an effort to fill much needed service gaps in the community, we seek new organizations to partner with and increase the accessibility of food throughout New London County.
Eligible Agencies
- Nonprofit organization or sponsor with a valid 501(c)3 tax-exempt certificate, a local municipality or qualified religious organization.
- Program's physical address and distribution is in New London County.
Eligible Programs
- Pantries, community meal sites, backpack programs
- Have a minimum of a designated dry storage area.
- Not charge for food or be reimbursed, compensated, or required services in exchange for food.
- All food received will go directly to patrons in the form of food pantry items or prepared meals.
- Safe, on-site storage of food (ServSafe Certification required).
- Sign and commit to a nondiscrimnation policy.
- If awarded, will attend quarterly meetings and submit statistics monthly.
Procedure / Next Steps
- Program applications will be considered that best meet gaps in service across New London County.
- If the agency's program is selected for consideration, a United Way staff member will contact you to setup a site visit.
- Site visits consist of an inspection of storage and/or preparation areas, fridge/freezer temp logs, food kept off the floor, Health Dept. License (if required), amongst other items. The staff member will review any documents that need to be available for review.
- If accepted, members will have access to the Food Center inventory on a scheduled, weekly basis.
