  • For many years, the Myers Family of Myers Print Shoppe coordinated the Palette Project that is such a unique part of this festival. We are grateful for this history and tradition which adds a unique element to the Vandergrift Artfest and the town of Vandergrift.  In addition this year, we are excited to announce that we will be bringing a new element to the Palette Project by raising funds for an art scholarship for a current college or technical school student from the Alle-Kiski Valley.

    Here are the details:

A total of 25 palettes will be available for painting. Artists are asked to incorporate the "Art Goes Grimm" Grimm Brothers theme into their creation, while expressing individual style and vision. Palettes will be on display in downtown Vandergrift from approximately July 1 - September 10.

Every palette is sponsored, and the name of the artist, the sponsor, and the title of the palette will be displayed on the back of the palette.   A palette sponsorship is $150.  In September, palettes will be sold in an online auction to raise funds for an art scholarship for a local student.  If the sponsor wishes to forego the palette going to auction, they may provide an additional $75 donation as a buy-it-now feature.  If the artist wishes to keep their palette, that will be possible if they dine their own sponsor, and request tha the sponsor pay the additional $75 buy-it-now donatoin fee.  An artist may self-sponsor, too, if desired.

If you would like to volunteer to paint one of the palettes, here is the process:

    1. Complete the Palette Artist application below. You will be asked to provide a basic concept of what you will be doing with the palette, and at least two photos of your artwork.  If upon delivery of your palette the art does not in any way reflect what you have stated you plan to do with said palette, your palette may not be placed on display at the discretion of the Artfest committee.
    2. All applications to paint a palette must be submitted by February 12, 2025.  A committee of six persons representing the Artfest planning board and community artists will review all submissions and select 25 palette artists by 20th.
    3. If you are chosen to paint one of this year's palettes you will be asked to pick up your wooden palette at one of the scheduled palette pick-up nights at the Vandergrift Market (134 Grant Avenue) in early March, or from Myers Print Shoppe during the month of March.  Artists must prime the front and back of their palettes with any neutral color (white, gray, beige, black, etc.)
    4. Finished palettes must be returned to one of our scheduled drop-off nights at the Market in early June, so that palettes can be sealed prior to July 1.  If you prefer to seal your own palette, you may do so and just make sure that you have it to us by July 1.
    5. Artists who want to ensure that they will be able to keep their palette  are encouraged to find a sponsor who is willing to work with the artist to provide the additional $75donation for the scholarship program, and then permit the artist to keep the palette.
