    Objectives:

    1.       To stand in solidarity with those who are suffering from mental and emotional struggles by our presence through songs, Scripture, and stories, where laments and tears are given space, not to be endured alone, but to be witnessed and to receive the hope of being accompanied

    2.       To confess areas where the church has fallen short, and examine our own biases related to mental health issues, such as,
    a.       Mental health issue is something one can snap out of on one’s own
    b.       Mental health issue is due to a person’s lack of faith and sin

    3.       To bring comfort and offer a space of lament and prayer for those going through mental and emotional struggles, including their caregivers, through songs, Scripture, and curated stories related to mental health issues

  • About Hope in a Thousand Storms

    1.       What can I expect that evening?

It will be a contemplative evening of songs, scripture, and honest stories offering light and hope for those who are going through any storm of the mind and heart.

We will be spending a large part of our time singing songs related to lament, waiting, and hope.

There will also be time set aside for personal reflection and prayer in silence. Towards the end of the service, we have prayer hosts to pray with you should you need prayer.

You can download the service booklet here. https://wesley.sg/HOPE-servicebooklet.

    2.       Is this only for those going through mental health issues?

Not at all. You may be walking through a difficult season, caring for someone who is, or simply choosing to be present in solidarity. Whatever your story, you are welcome to join this time of reflection and shared hope.

    3.       I would like to share my story. How can I do so?

We welcome you to share your journey related to mental and emotional health with us on the next page. You may choose to remain anonymous.

    4.       Is the evening suitable for non-Christians?

We welcome anyone who is open to spending an evening of songs and prayers on lament, waiting, and hope with us.

    5.       Will the service be live-streamed?

Due to the nature and content of the service, it will not be live-streamed nor will there be a video recording.

    6.       Will there be a sermon?

    There is none.

    7.       I am sensitive to noise, bright lights, and crowds. Is it suitable for me to be there?

The evening will be generally contemplative in nature, and lights bright enough for us to follow the programme. While we are not able to estimate the number who may turn up that evening, we will be setting aside an area where seating will be sparser. Simply let our ushers know if you would like to be seated in a less crowded area.

    8.       I would like to be left alone. Is this possible?

Certainly. We understand that some of us are not in a space for social interaction, including saying hello to strangers or shaking hands. If you would like to be left alone, we have designated an area for you as well. Simply let our ushers know and they will guide you accordingly.

    9.       What should I do if I would like someone to pray with me?

There will be an invitation towards the end of the service if you would like someone to pray with you. Simply follow the instructions given then.

    10.  Do you provide counselling and follow-up services?

If you need someone to journey with whatever you are going through this season, you may like to explore the various resources and helplines given in our programme booklet. For now, you may like to consider some of the services that our church offers below.
