    • What is JTP?
    • The West Brisbane Warriors' Junior Training Program (JTP) is a weekly volleyball program designed to help young athletes learn, improve, and enjoy the game in a positive and supportive environment.

JTP is open to players across a wide range of skill levels - from those new to volleyball through to more experienced juniors wanting to continue developing their skills. Sessions focus on building strong fundamentals, confidence, teamwork, and a love for the sport, while still challenging athletes appropriately.

Our experienced coaches place a strong emphasis on fun, encouragement, and learning, ensuring every athlete feels supported and engaged. Training is structured but enjoyable, helping players develop at their own pace while staying active and motivated.

      What to expect:

      • Weekly, well-structured training sessions
      • Coaching suitable for beginners through to advanced players
      • A fun, safe, and inclusive environment
      • Clear communication and experienced supervision
      • A pathway for continued development within West Brisbane Warriors

Further details on session times, venues, and group placement can be found later in the form.

    • Session descriptions (Skill Levels)
    • Term 4, JTP will offer three nights of weekly training sessions run across two venue locations, with sessions being grouped by skill level and age range.

To ensure the best training environment for all athletes, session selection should primarily be based on skill level and experience, with year levels used as strictly as a general, secondary guide. If your child falls under the bottom of the age range of the session that you think best suits them, please reach out first via email unless specifically asked to join that squad.

      Foundational:

      • Designed for athletes who are within their first year of volleyball volleyball and are still learning and/or developing their core skills.
      • Focuses on the fundamentals: passing, setting, serving, and basic attacking mechanics.
      • Suitable for athletes with relatively little experience, who are yet to be introduced into a competitive environment.
      • Sessions emphasise a fun, low-stakes environment, where athletes can build their confidence and learn the game of volleyball.
      • Delivered in a supportive, structured environment with a wider range of abilities comparative to other sessions. Sessions focus primarily on working solo up to small groups to make sure each athlete can work at their own pace – whether that’s slower or faster than others.
      • Typical age guide: Years 3,4,5,6,7

      Emerging:

      • Designed for athletes who are within their first to second year of volleyball, who have learned the basics but are still developing towards a competitive environment. This includes those who have previously participated in the foundational squads, school P.E. programs or school team sessions.
      • Focuses on the development of fundamentals: passing, setting, serving, and basic attacking mechanics as well as the introduction of a more competitive setting.
      • Sessions emphasise a mix of development and fun through both drills and gameplay.
      • Sessions work through both individual and group work, introducing ideas of working as a group, whilst still working on individual progress.
      • Typical age guide: Years 5, 6,7,8

      Intermediate:

      • Designed for athletes who can perform core skills consistently and participate in gameplay, and are looking to progress their skills to perform in competitive environments.
      • Suitable for players who have been involved in their school’s league, club jpvl players, or those who have participated in previous squads from Wests or other clubs.
      • Focuses on refining technique, improving consistency, and developing decision-making in game-like scenarios.
      • Introduces more structured gameplay, including positioning, movement patterns, and team-based play. Focus is placed on both technique progression and outcomes.
      • Balances skill development with competitive, game-like drills, in a high energy session.
      • Typical age guide: Years 7, 8, 9,10

      Advanced:

      • Designed for athletes competing in high-level school teams, development programs, or JPVL / PVL.
      • Focuses on polishing technical execution, gameplay decision-making, and tactical understanding.
      • Includes position-specific training and system-based play.
Greater emphasis on game intensity, tempo, and performance under pressure
Sessions are structured around gameplay scenarios with focus on the biomechanics of volleyball and performance.
      • Typical age guide: Years 9,10,11

Wests reserves the right to adjust placements if necessary. If you are unsure about where your child’s level is at, feel free to reach out for consultation. If your child falls under the bottom of the age range of the session that you think best suits them, please reach out first via email unless you’ve been invited into that squad.
