60th Anniversary Commemoration Selma Bridge Crossing Weekend

March 8-9, 2025

 

Join us for a transformative two-day event honoring the 60th Anniversary of Bloody Sunday and the Selma to Montgomery March. This historic weekend will unite students, leaders, and changemakers from across the country for an educational, cultural, and inspiring experience.

 Day 1: HBCU Educational Summit |10:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m.|

Saturday, March 8, 2025 | Alabama State University John G. Hardy Center Theatre

The HBCU Educational Summit is designed to empower, educate, and inspire the next generation of leaders. Through dynamic panels, interactive sessions, and cultural activities, students will engage with influential voices in activism, education, and social justice.

Key panels and discussions will include:

• Racial and Social Justice: Building a Roadmap for Change,
• Pathways to Progress: Workforce Development & Financial Literacy in the Black Community, Bridging Generations: The Role of Youth in the Civil Rights Movement,
• Tech Equity: Advancing Social Justice Through Innovation.

Advocacy, Creativity and Fun

We’ll host an Art & Paint Session where students will create posters and signs to be proudly displayed during Day 2’s historic events in Selma.

Calling All Divine 9 Organizations!

If your students participate in our HBCU Educational Summit, we want to encourage them to have an exclusive opportunity to showcase their unity and spirit.

• On Sunday, March 9, 2025, during the Gospel and R&B Explosion, there will be a Divine 9 Stroll Off.
• NOTE that ALL Divine 9 National Presidents will be in attendance, providing a powerful platform to showcase each organization’s and your University's pride and excellence.

Unity Stroll Workshop

• We will host a Divine 9 Unity Stroll Workshop.
• Professional choreographers will lead a special session to teach a Unity Stroll, which will be performed during the HBCU & Divine 9 Presidents Roll Call for Sunday’s event.

Day 2: Gospel and R&B Explosion and Historic Bridge Crossing |8:00 a.m. -1:30 p.m.|

Gospel and R&B Explosion | 8:00 a.m. -1:30 p.m.|

The weekend culminates with a powerful Gospel and  R&B Explosion celebrating faith, resilience, and community. This event will feature performances from nationally known artist, an HBCU Presidential Roll Call, and Divine 9 Presidential Organizations Roll Call.

Food Trucks and Vendors |8:00 a.m. -3:00 p.m.|

Food trucks and vendors will be available on-site during the Gospel and R&B Explosion, offering a variety of delicious cuisine and refreshments. Attendees can also explore local vendors showcasing unique merchandise, cultural items, and commemorative memorabilia.

Pre-March Rally and 60th Anniversary Bridge Crossing Reenactment |1:30p.m.-4:30p.m.|

Immediately following the Gospel and R&B Explosion, we’ll gather for the Pre-March Rally and line up for the 60th Anniversary Bridge Crossing Reenactment on Broad Street to walk across the infamous Edmund Pettus Bridge, honoring the legacy of those who courageously marched for our civil rights.
