Ready, Set, Scribble!

Our upcoming Handwriting Readiness Group designed specifically for Kinder 1 and Kinder 2 children!

The Handwriting Readiness Program is designed by an experienced occupational therapist to help children develop the essential skills needed for writing. This program focuses on fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, visual perception, and sensory processing, all crucial for successful handwriting. Through engaging and playful activities, children will build confidence and competence in their writing abilities.

Each session follows a consistent routine to support focus, skill-building, and self-regulation.

Welcome & Introduction

Gather the children in a circle and greet them. Briefly introduce the theme of the day with a fun song or rhyme.

Warm-Up!
Engage in movement games to warm up their hands and bodies

Fine Motor Stations
Hands-on tasks to build finger strength and coordination. These may include Playdough pinching, Tweezer games, and Bead threading, just to name a few!

Pre-Writing & Visual Tasks
Activities to prepare for writing, including tracing, mazes, and pattern copying.

Cool-Down & Reflection
Group check-in to reflect on the session, plus rewards like stickers or charts to boost motivation!

Some of the many activities planned:

Movement songs
Obstacle Courses
Preparation for Scissor Skills
Using Scissor Scoopers and cutting different textures like play-doh!
Chalkboard Writing
Multi-Sensory Activities
Using various textures (like fabric, sand, or foam) to form letters, enhancing sensory integration.

Using Tweezers

Using therapeutic putty to strengthen little muscles

Pencil pick up song followed by a pencil to paper task

and so many more!

6-week program with weekly 1 hour sessions

Led by a qualified Occupational Therapist
Developmentally appropriate activities that feel like play!

Parental Consent for Bathroom Assistance
