STEP 1: What questions should research answer?

We want to know what research questions matter most to you about adult critical care transfer.

You can think about any part of the process, including:

    Before transfer

    ·       How transfer decisions are made

    ·       How patients are categorised (e.g. urgent, time-critical, capacity)

    ·       When transfers do not go ahead and why

    ·       Hospital readiness and preparation

    ·       Communication with families

    During transfer

    ·       Monitoring and equipment

    ·       Physiological stability

    ·       Medication, sedation and pain control

    ·       Long-distance transfers

    ·       Environmental impact of transfer activity

    After transfer

    ·       Timeliness of care

    ·       Completion of urgent procedures

    ·       Patient outcomes

    ·       Experience of patients and families

    ·       Impact of declined or delayed transfers

    Wider service questions

    ·       Workforce and staffing

    ·       Data systems and information capture

    ·       Equity of access across regions

    ·       Organisation of services

If you had funding for research in adult critical care transfer, what would you want it spent on?

You do not need to know whether research already exists — we will check that later.

You can write up to five questions.

They can be about clinical care, safety, experience, organisation, or outcomes.

  • Which best describes you?
  • If healthcare professional, what is your role?
  • Which UK nation are you based in?
  • Gender
  • Ethnicity
  • What happens next?

Unanswered questions will go into a second prioritisation survey.

The results will be shared with research funders and national organisations to help ensure that future research is focussed on the things that matter the most to you.
