Event Information
Access Opportunity's Student Advisors are looking for speakers to lead sessions at our upcoming Winter Workshop. The event takes place on Saturday, January 6th at 9200 W 108th Cir, Westminster, CO 80021. If selected, your session could occur anytime between 10am and 4pm.
Session Content and Audience
Student Advisors at Access Opportunity (AO) will select proposals based on answers to the questions in this form, with additional consideration for speakers with shared identities and lived experiences as AO students. The areas of interest are:
- Mental Health
- Advocating for your needs
- Identity and intersectionality
- Combatting imposter syndrome
- Vulnerability
- Financial Health
- Student loans and paying for grad school
- Building wealth (buying a house, investing, 401k, etc.)
- Taxes
- Passive income
- College and Career Success
- Finding scholarships
- "Things I wish I knew my first year of college"
- Getting involved on campus
- Understanding and finding campus resources
- Finding internships
- Following your purpose vs family expectations
- Using AI to help with academic/career success
- Community & Leadership
- Networking
- Building relationships
- Youth activism
For all content areas, presenters are strongly encouraged to make their workshops interactive and engaging, avoiding lectures as much as possible.
Sessions will be 50 minutes long and will have 40-80 students in the audience. Students range in age from juniors in high school to seniors in college. Most (87%) are first in their families to attend college and all are from low income households.
Please take a minute to visit our website and learn more about AO students and program before completing this form.
Payment Policy
Access Opportunity will compensate guest speakers $300 for each session. There is no additional compensation for prep time. Guest speakers have two options for how they may choose to engage with that compensation:
- Accept the established rate (paid via PayPal or check)
- Waive compensation and opt to donate time instead
Speakers that decide to waive their compensation may also opt to sponsor another speaker by donating $300 to AO. We are extremely grateful for any and all contributions.
Expectations
We ask the following of our guest speakers:
- Meet with an AO team member and/or student advisor prior to the speaking engagement to learn more about the program, audience, and event
- Create an engaging, interactive workshop tailored specifically to AO students
- Show up in person on January 6th to present your session
- Share materials with AO in advance
Deadline and Next Steps
Proposals are due by Tuesday, November 7th. The Student Advisors will meet to make their final decisions and then we will notify each person via email whether their proposal was accepted for the event or not by November 15th.
