  • 2026 Continuing Education Scholarship

    Application Deadline is July 1, 2026.

  • Part of the mission of the Alaina Coates FAAM Foundation is to invest time and resources into uplifting and supporting communities. One of the ways in which we accomplish this objective is through our annual scholarship program. 

    The Continuing Education scholarship is awarded to a full-time undergraduate student who is continuing their education at an accredited college or university in the state of South Carolina (do not have to be a resident of SC) and pursing a career in one of the following fields of study:

    • Family & Human Development (Human Development & Family Studies, Family & Consumer Sciences, Social Work, Child & Adolescent Development, Early Childhood Education)
    • Education & Academic Leadership (Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Special Education, Educational Leadership, School Counseling)
    • Athletics & Youth Development (Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Sports Management, Recreation & Sport Leadership, Athletic Training, Physical Education)
    • Mentoring & Community Impact (Youth Development, Psychology, Sociology, Counseling, Community & Nonprofit Leadership)

    ​**Students in similar majors aligned with the scholarship mission may be considered at the discretion of the selection committee.**

    Award: One full-time undergraduate student will be awarded $1,000.00 to be used towards their tuition costs at an accredited institution of higher learning.

    Application Requirements: 

    • Application must be completed in its entirety and all accompanying documentation uploaded by 11:59pm EST on July 1, 2026. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
    • Applicant must be a full-time undegraduate student enrolled at an accredited college or university in the state of South Carolina. Proof of full-time enrollment will be required before funds can be released to the student.
    • Applicant must have completed at least one full academic semester of college. We will not consider college credits attained as a high school student.
    • Applicant must be in good academic standing.
    • Applicant must have achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on 4.0 scale (or comparable).
    • Applicant must submit their most recent official transcript. 
    • Applicant must be pursuing a major in one of the FAAM foundation's focused fields of study.
    • Applicant must submit one signed letter of recommendation from a professor or school administrator. Letters must contain an original signature. We will not accept computer-generated signatures using fonts. You may scan/copy your signed letter of recommendation and upload it with your application.
    • Submit resume (optional) as supporting documentation.
    • A 500-600 word essay responding to the following: Describe how your continued college education in South Carolina is preparing you to strengthen families, support academic success, promote athletic leadership, or mentor others. Share specific examples of how you are already making an impact and how you plan to serve your community after graduation.

    Notification: The scholarship recipient will be notified on or before July 30, 2026.
