PSS Mentor Sign-Up 2026

About Mentoring

Mentors join our youngest swimmers in the water to provide advice, encouragement, and support during practices. They are expected to be confident swimmers age 13+ who can demonstrate basic stroke technique, physically assist swimmer who are struggling to complete a set, and start swimmers from the wall or pool deck. We will need mentors for Little Sailfish practices, 8 & under practices, and a few of mentors for 9-12 practices. Practice times can be found on the Sign-Up Genius or the PSS website.

Mentor Guidelines

You are swimmers FIRST! You are going to be in the spot light as role models for all of the younger swimmers and if they see you putting swimming first, they will too.

Your role as a MENTOR is to provide extra support to the coaching staff.

Set an example of SAFETY. One very important job of mentors is to explain and demonstrate water safety as well as being additional eyes and ears in the water. Work with the children to show them what is safe and acceptable behavior in the water.

Be ACCOUNTABLE. Keep the talking to a minimum, and make sure you can hear the coaches when they give directions. It is your responsibility to instruct the swimmers in the drills which means you need to know the drills! If you are listening, your swimmers will be listening.

Be a CHEER LEADER. We expect you to lead cheers with the younger swimmers, encourage them while they are racing, and participate in as many spirit activities as possible.

Be PREPARED. We need you to be the first in the pool so we can start practices on time. Mornings can be very early, but show up on the days you are assigned, be on time and arrive ready to help and motivate the kids.

Are you interested in mentoring for Little Sailfish this summer? Little Sailfish mentors are expected to consistently attend practice and to be comfortable working with our Little Sailfish for extended periods of time without the help of a coach.

Parent Signature - I certify that this mentor will be 13 years old before 6/30/26. This mentor has my permission to participate in the mentor program by assisting younger swimmers during the practice session designated. I will support my mentor by getting them to their assigned days as the coaching staff will depend upon their presence.
