331 Maple Street (between Nostrand and New York Ave) will soon be developed into a 12-story, 99-unit, market-rate apartment complex. It will destroy the historic character of our district and drive up the price of the neighborhood.
Maple Street is listed on the National Register and made of single family homes and prewar buildings that are no more than 4 or 5 stories tall. The new development will not align with the rest of the buildings and will block sunlight for the neighbors along with doubling the population density.
Our neighborhood is currently zoned R6, which is an outdated “Tower in the Park” zoning that does not limit the height and scale of new developments.
We are petitioning our local representatives to have our neighborhood rezoned to mandate contextual height restrictions on new developments and uniform setbacks that bring harmony to the street.
