  • Since the inception of our organization, Omega men have emphasized the importance of scholarship and academic excellence. Sigma Iota Chapter, an unincorporated chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., offers financial support to African American high school seniors who plan to continue their education at a four-year college or university.

    For the first time in its history, Sigma Iota Chapter is proud to offer a STEM-focused scholarship to graduating high school seniors who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, and a commitment to advancing their communities through Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

    “To ensure equitable consideration, applicants may apply for only one scholarship.”

  • $2,000.00 Sigma Iota Funded Scholarship Awards (multiple awards will be given). 

    $3,000.00 Sigma Iota Funded STEM Scholarship Awards (one award will be given).

  • Eligibility

    Graduating high school students (Class of 2026) who are enrolled in a four (4) year program at an accredited College or University for the Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 semesters.

    Alameda or Contra Costa County Resident

    Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 Scale

    Active in Community Service Initatives

    Meets the Criteria set forth by all four Cardinal Principles:

    Manhood/Womanhood- Having a sense of responsibility and humane qualities.

    Scholarship- Ability to show quality performance inside as well as outside the classroom.

    Perseverance- The ability to start a task/project and finish it despite difficulties.

    Uplift- The ability to elevate or raise those around you. 

  • Sigma Iota STEM Scholarship Eligibility Requirements:

    $3,000.00

    Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

    Graduating high school students (Class of 2026) who are enrolled in a four (4) year program at an accredited College or University for the Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 semesters.

    Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 Scale


    Plan to major in a STEM-related field at an accredited four-year college or university.


    Be a Alameda or Contra Costa County Resident

    Active in Community Service Initatives


    Demonstrate good character, leadership, and community involvement

    Meets the Criteria set forth by all four Cardinal Principles:

    Instructions:

    1. Submit an official school acceptance letter from a university or college.
    2. Submit two (2) written recommendations, preferably from a teacher, counselor, employer or community leader.
    3. Submit Official High School Transcripts.
    4. Submit a 500 word essay discussing the following topic:

     

  • Regular Scholarship topic:

    In a world powered by artifical intelligence (AI), how can young people provide leadership in improving their communities?

     

  •                                                     or 

    STEM-Based Scholarship topic:

    African American communities have historically faced barriers to access in STEM-related fields. How does your educational journey position you to help close those gaps for future generations.

    5. Students meeting the criteria will be invited to participate in an in-person interview with the Sigma Iota Scholarship Committee.

  • Scholarship awardees will be notified by mail/email no later than May 15, 2026. Awards will be announced at the annual Sigma Iota Chapter scholarship banquet ceremony on June 27, 2026 and the SF Bay Area Pan Hellenic councill awards luncheon in June (Date TBD).

  • Upon official confirmation of school enrollment and attendance for the Fall 2026 or Spring 2027 semester, recipients will receive payment of scholarship award.
