In response to these trying economic times, then County Board Chair Barbara Favola and John Shooshan, founder of The Shooshan Company, teamed up to strengthen the safety net protecting the most vulnerable members of the community. By helping to establish the Emergency Needs · Homelessness Prevention Fund at the Arlington Community Foundation, they have provided a new way to help Arlingtonians who have been hit hard by the economic crisis and are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
As part of this Emergency Needs Fund, the Arlington Community Foundation will offer Prompt Response to Emergency Needs Grants up to $3,000 for 501 (c) 3 organizations that provide temporary, emergency assistance such as rent, food and services to individuals and families in Arlington County and have come upon unexpected, urgent community needs or unanticipated opportunities. Applicants whose proposals are approved for funding can expect to receive funds within a few weeks. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis and based on the availability of funds.
