  • SDCC Mission: The South Dallas Cultural Center provides programs in the performing, literary, and visual arts with an emphasis on the African contribution to world culture. We facilitate enriching and dynamic opportunities for the Dallas community to experience, examine, and celebrate black creative culture.

     

    Artists are selected based on their demonstrated mastery of the subject matter, artistic skill, and professional experience. Selection is not influenced by race, creed, ethnicity, or any other protected characteristic. Participation in classes and programs is open and welcoming to all individuals, regardless of background.

  • Application Period:
    Opens April 1, 2026
    Closes June 1, 2026

    We invite visual artists and curators to submit proposals for consideration in our 2027 exhibition season. Submissions may include solo exhibitions, group exhibitions, and curated projects that reflect innovative artistic practices and culturally relevant themes.

    Eligibility:

    - Visual artists (emerging and established)
    - Independent curators and curatorial collectives
    - Collaborative artist teams

  • Required Materials for All Proposals
    All submissions must include the following:

    1. Professional Resume or CV

    For group exhibitions, include a resume for each participating artist.


    2. Artist and/or Curator Biography

    A brief professional bio for each artist and/or curator involved in the proposal.


    3. Artist or Curatorial Statement (300–500 words)
    This statement should articulate the conceptual framework, themes, and artistic approach informing the proposed work.

    Solo exhibitions require one artist statement.
    Group or curated exhibitions require a cohesive curatorial statement that clearly contextualizes the exhibition and briefly addresses each participating artist’s work.


    4. Exhibition Proposal Narrative (500 words minimum)
    Provide a detailed description of the proposed exhibition, including:

    The central ideas and goals of the project
    Conceptual and cultural context
    Description of the artwork to be included
    Media and materials
    Proposed number of works
    Approximate dimensions and spatial considerations
    Proposals should clearly demonstrate how the exhibition will function within a gallery setting and engage audiences.
