The City of Lancaster has acquired a plot of land that has been in cultivation since it was started as a victory garden during WWII. Together with community partners, the City has agreed to maintain the land as a garden and envisions a community garden that is developed in a way that reflects the needs and desires of the neighborhood residents. This project is being done as a pilot project with the intention of forming more community gardens throughout all neighborhoods of the city.
Community gardens provide access to fresh fruits and vegetables, open green space, opportunities to improve physical and mental health conditions, and to strengthen community connections.
