What is AZ Eco Fashion Week?
Every year, FABRIC and AZ Apparel Foundation celebrate sustainable fashion by hosting AZ Eco Fashion Week at FABRIC during Earth Week. The week consists of education, pop up trunk shows, fashion shows and more. Read more about this event at www.AZEcoFashionWeek.com
What is the reFABRICate Fashion Show?
The fashion show that takes place during AZ Eco FW is called reFABRICate becasue it features the garments created in the reFABRICate program. In addition to these garments, the show also features pieces by local AZ brands who make sustainable clothing and accessories. Sustainable could include upcycled garments, garments made of sustainable/eco-friendly fibers and fabrics, and/or garmentst made using zero waste techniques.
What is the reFABRICate program at FABRIC?
A group of local designers are breathing new life into the scraps from the cutting room floor FABRIC. These unique, one-of-a-kind, sustainable garments are shown and sold at AZ Eco Fashion Week, at the FABRIC building store, and online throughout the rest of the year. Proceeds are split between the designer who made the garment and the non-profit AZ Apparel Foundation. Let us know if you'd also like to be a designer in the reFABRICate program!
How do I apply to show my work in the reFABRICate Fashion Show?
Fill out this application and someone will reply to let you know if you've been selected to participate.
Does it cost anything to participate as a designer/brand in the show?
If you are a FABRIC Member it is free to participate.
If you are a reFABRICate program designer you will be entering reFABRICate pieces into the finale' portion of the show and there is no charge to participate. But if you'd also like to have your own brand's collection in the show, there is a $100 participation fee.
If you are a sustainable brand and are selected to participate, the participation fee is $100.
If you are chosen, you will be sent a payment link. By filling out this application, you are agreeing to pay the participation fee if chosen. This small fee goes toward the builiding and show expenses (cleaning, setup, utilities, chairs, tables, linens, lighting, sound, projection, backstage, runway, etc...) but does not totally cover it. As a participant, we need you to help contribute to the success of this event by promoting it with us so that ticket sales can cover the rest of the expenses. This is also a fundraiser for the non-profit AZ Apparel Foundation so it can continue to #GrowAZFashion.
What about hair, makeup, models, photos/videos?
This is a community collaboration and we rely on volunteer models, hair stylists, makeup artists, and photographers/videographers from the community who believe in our mission and volunteer their time through our non-profit. If you work with any people you'd like to bring into the event and share with the other participants, please do.
How do I chose my models?
There will be a model audition a couple of weeks before the event. You can choose directly from the pool of volunteer models who attend. Models will need to be shared so we don't end up with too many models for the hair/makeup people to style. Therefore, you'll need to be wiling to share models and their hair/makeup looks with other designers. Remember, its a community show. If you have a very unique model requirement that makes it so that you can't share models, you will need to arrange for your own hair/makeup instead of using the hair/makeup artists assigned to the show because they only have time to work on a limited number of models.
Can I sell my garments at the show?
Yes, but you must donate 20% of your sales to AZ Apparel Foundation at the end of the night of the show. You can pull your rack out after the show to sell. But you'll want to have an assistant helping you rehang your garments immediately after the model takes them off backstage so that you can pull that rack out right after the show ends or else you'll probably miss the opportunity because the audience tends to leave shortly after its over. You also must have a legitiamate business with a TPT Tax License so you can legally sell and collect/report sales tax in our City of Tempe building. You can also apply to participate in the Trunk Show portion of AZ Eco FW where you can have a vendor booth.
We are a fashion business incubator so you must be a legal business with a business license/TPT license to participate.
You must show 8-16 looks in the show. Looks can be for men, women, children or pets.
If you are an accessories brand, you can participate. All of your models will need to wear all black simple garments so that it is obvious that the accessories are the focus.
You must pay the $100 registration fee within 5 days from recieving the payment link.
You must donate 20% of any sales to AZ Apparel Foundation by the end of the event.
You must sell at least 10 tickets to the show.
You must record all volunteer hours in the AZ Apparel Foundation volunter system. This includes all time spent making designs specifically for the show and the time spent involved in the coordination and production of the show.
Thank you for applying and we look forward to working with you!
