The Capital Area Council of Churches celebrates community leaders at the Annual Fall Awards Celebration Dinner. We rely on nominations from our member churches to help us identify which leaders should be recognized at this event. Below are the award categories as well as instructions on how to submit a nomination.
Rev. Joyce Steinkraus Giles Pastoral Service Award
Presented to a Pastor who actively participates in the Council or one of its programs, provides outstanding pastoral ministry, and exemplifies racial, gender, and denominational inclusiveness.
The James and Pearl Campbell Peace and Justice Award
Presented to a person who in his/her life’s work has shown to be a friend of peace and justice, as were the Campbells. Honoree need not be a member of the Council, but must be active in the CACC service area.
Caryle Adams Ecumenical/ Interfaith Award
Presented to a person who: has worked to bring the message of unity and who exemplifies the inclusive spirit of Dr. Adams and has been involved in some ecumenical or interfaith program or project.
Micah 6:8 Award
Presented to a person who is a living example of one who does justice, loves kindness and walks humbly with God. The award was inspired by the unselfish acts of Maggie Sherwood, a volunteer at the Emergency Homeless Shelter. Maggie gave of her time, energy and financial support. Maggie became “grandma” to the guests, staff and members of the Shelter Oversight Committee on which she served.
Ed Block Award
Presented to a high school or college student to recognize the faith and leadership they demonstrate. The youth of our community were very important to Ed. He believed we needed to build bridges between the faith community and the youth so that his generation could work with the determination of young people to bring peace and to hear their voice.
