Fostering Policy.
Other Animals & Children
Rabbits placed in foster in homes will not be permitted to mix with any of the foster carer's own pets.
Fosterer's therefore need to have a separte space where the foster rabbit(s) can be adequately hosed and isolated.
If you are fostering rabbits and there are any other rabbits in the home, they must be fully vaccinated; we require proof of vaccintion will at the assessment visit.
If fosters have children in the hosue (including vistors), it's important that their children are supervied with the Rabbits all time.
Medication and Veterinary Treatment
If a rabbit is on medication whlist in foster it is nthe fosterers responsibility to administer this a medication chart will be provided to ensure the correct dosage is given.
If the foster rabbit needs any treatment like flystrike, mite protection and etc where we will get themtreated at one of our available sites.
We will discuss this with you and never ask fosters to take on rabbits that they do not feel confident in supporting.
Hopefully this will not happen but in the situation a foster carer has any concerns about their foster rabbit the first step is to contact the rescue staff.
They will advise you on the situation and what to do next. Rabbit may only be taken to our current vets (we will give you the details to your closest one, as we have two), or their appointed out of hours service, for treatment.
We will advise on whether and when treatment is necessary and contact the vet.
The foster carer will be responsible for transporting the rabbit to thw vets. if you are unable to transport the rabbit you must contact the rescue staff.
I agree that I am not the legal owner of the Foster Rabbit that is in my care that i must return the rabbit back in to the rescue's care as soon as possible.
What if somethings go wrong?
We will be there to support you but if you experience difficulties with the rabbit in your care, please contact the rescue for advice.
If there is a reson why the fostered rabbit cannot remain in the foster home, alternative arrangements will be made as quickly as possible by the rescue staff.
