Summit Volunteer Description
Volunteers are critical for the overall success of the California Breastfeeding Summit, which takes place through the Whova virtual event app from January 26-28, 2027.
We have a few specific roles available to help make the 2027 Summit a success! We encourage you to review all of the available roles and descriptions below, and let us know which position that you feel best suits your interests.
Please Note: This is a volunteer position. Other than the complimentary registration, there will be no additional compensation. Due to the smaller size of the Summit committee, not all applicants will be selected. We recommend applying early.

Summit Volunteer Roles & Responsibilities
Abstract Reviewers:
- Review all of the speaker abstracts submissions (August 2026)
- Attend speaker's recording session (November 2026)
- Moderate a single plenary or workshop session (January 2027)
Abstracts will be solicited throughout June and July. Reviewers must be available during the month of August to review each submitted abstract using a scoring rubric we provide. If there are gaps in the program after abstracts are approved and reviewed, we ask you to provide suggestions for additional speakers or presenters to invite, which will take place in September.
Plenary Moderators:
- Pre-record speaker introductions (November 2026)
- Attend speaker's recording session (November 2026)
- Facilitate a live Q&A session during the Summit (January 2027)
We are looking for volunteers to moderate our plenary sessions, which includes introducing the speaker (recorded in the fall), and facilitating a live Q&A at the end of the session through the Whova app.
Though experience with being on camera in this capacity is nice, we will provide guidance on live and recorded video presentation skills, and in-home studio set-up to provide you and our attendees with the best possible event experience. Attendance at the Summit is required for this role, because some questions might seek clarity based on prior sessions.
The number of sessions you moderate will depend on our total number of volunteers. We usually have about 11 plenary sessions total. You’ll record all speaker introductions in the fall. From there, your presence and participation during the Summit is all that’s required.
Workshop Moderators:
- Live speaker and workshop introductions (January 2027)
- Facilitate live Q&A session at the end of the live workshop (January 2027)
Workshop moderators are the glue that holds our interactive skill-building workshops together. You will introduce the speakers, facilitate live Q&A in the chat and support the success of the session. We typically have around 10 workshops from 1 to 3 p.m. Pacific Time each day of the Summit. An introductory email will be sent to you and your assigned speaker to discuss details and support needs. From there, your presence and participation during the Summit is all that’s required.
