Scholarship Purpose
The Kathy Lampl Bernard Memorial Scholarship honors the life and legacy of Kathy Lampl Bernard, a devoted bedside nurse who spent her career caring for patients on the hospital floor and in nursing homes. This scholarship supports aspiring nurses who are committed to following a similar path — providing compassionate, hands-on care at the bedside.
To be considered for a scholarship, students must meet the following qualifications:
- Be a bona fide resident of Florida for at least 12 months prior to enrollment as a student pursuing a nursing education (not including time spent attending an undergraduate/ graduate school in Florida).
- Be enrolled in or have been accepted to a nursing program at an accredited institution (LPN, RN, or BSN)
- To apply for the scholarship, students must submit the following:
- Completed application as provided by the Foundation
- A letter on school letterhead from an accredited institution verifying that applicant has been accepted for enrollment or is actively enrolled in a healthcare program
- At least 1 letter of recommendation from a person other a family member, documenting applicant’s commitment to bedside nursing
- A personal statement explaining:
- Why you want to become a nurse
- How you plan to use your nursing degree, specifically addressing your commitment to bedside nursing.
- Any personal experience(s) that inspired you to pursue nursing
- Adversity you have faced in your life or educational journey, and how you overcame it
Scholarship recipients are selected by the Foundation Board upon review of the application and supporting materials. The dollar amount of scholarship(s) may vary, depending on available Foundation funds.
