Thank you for your interest in our Interfaith Chaplaincy Certificate Program.  If you have completed graduate education or a Master’s degree in theology or religious studies, or if you have extensive experience working in this field, it may be that some parts of our curriculum will be unnecessary for you. We review applicants’ educational and work/life experiences, on a case-by-case basis, to assess if a reduction of curriculum requirements is appropriate. If you need help with this form, please contact our admissions team. 

The Credit Waiver Evaluation is a separate process from the Chaplaincy Program application. A $50 evaluation fee covers the review of your prior education and experience, as well as a meeting with the Dean to discuss potential course waivers and your individualized program requirements.

If you later choose to apply and enroll in the Chaplaincy Program, the $50 evaluation fee will be credited toward your tuition. The Chaplaincy Program application is submitted separately and carries a $150 application fee.

Approved waivers may reduce your tuition based on the number of credit hours waived. In addition to any per-credit tuition reduction, program fees may also be adjusted based on the number and type of approved waivers.

Please include copies of any and all of the following that you have available:

• Graduate school transcripts
• Your CV/Resume
• Documentation of any CPE training (if applicable)
• Certificates of completion for relevant coursework or training

Below is a list of the Faith Traditions covered in the Interfaith Chaplaincy program at The Chaplaincy Institute (ChI). For each tradition, please describe your experience in /familiarity with (a short paragraph or bullet list is fine). For example, it could be that you took a Comparative Religions class as an undergrad or minored in one of these traditions in your graduate studies. You may have attended some public services for one or any number of these traditions. Perhaps a close family member practices in one of these traditions. Please provide any details you feel will help us better understand your ability to meet and minister with those practicing in each Faith Tradition listed below.

ChI faculty have developed the curriculum to provide students with a comprehensive, integrated, interfaith, and applied-theology education.  The Chaplaincy Program curriculum is woven throughout and across 10 required courses and several chosen electives. Five Threads comprise the curriculum, and establish the Core Competencies for Ministerial Formation, which inform the classroom learning objectives, the homework assignments, and the extra-curricular requirements:

1. Interfaith Wisdom – Engage with the world’s knowledge, beliefs, traditions and practices
2. Spiritual Psychology – Deepen understanding of self and psyche
3. Spiritual Leadership & Development – Define, express and embody one’s personal call to service, and to develop one’s leadership style and approach
4. Interfaith Ministry & Service – Explore spiritual care practices for individuals and communities
5. Vocational Formation – Design and practice your unique path to service or ministry

In combination, these elements both prepare and measure each seminarian’s readiness for graduation.

Vocational/Psychological Assessment. This requirement may be waived by providing documentation of successfully completing a similar assessment in a previous seminary program and/or prior to one’s original ordination if that assessment has taken place within the previous five years. Please do not upload a copy of your assessment with this submission. Our Community Minister will contact you to schedule a time to discuss this element directly.
