  • The initial application and acceptance window has passed. This application will place students on the waitlist for the 25-26 school year. 

    Note: This electronic application has multiple pages including a required online recommendation. Applicants should request that teachers complete the online recommendation as soon as possible. Applications without a completed recommendation are considered incomplete until the recommendation is received. Incomplete applications will not be considered for admission into the programs selected. It is recommended that the applicant set aside at least 30 minutes to complete this application.

  • Application Instructions

    This application is for both the Fine Arts and International Baccalaureate Programs at Central Fine Arts and International Baccalaureate Magnet High School. You may leave blank the parts of the application which are not applicable to your specific program. If you are applying to both programs, the entire application should be filled out.
  • Fine Arts Program Minimum Requirements

    Central Fine Arts & International Baccalaureate Magnet High School appreciates your interest in our magnet programs. Central has a tradition of excellence in both academics and the Fine Arts. Our mission is to offer study and training in the various Fine Arts disciplines with opportunities for performance, exhibition, and publication. Eligible applicants for the Fine Arts Program must be rising 9th or 10th graders with a minimum 2.7 GPA, and in good standing with the disciplinary code of their present school. Acceptance to the Fine Arts Program is provisional. A final review of eligibility will be made at the end of the current school year, and parents will be notified of rescission of offer to participate.
  • International Baccalaureate Program Minimum Requirements

    The International Baccalaureate (IB) Program is a rigorous, pre-university comprehensive liberal arts program for the academically capable, committed student who seriously desires to hone his or her knowledge and critical thinking skills necessary for success in the global community. It is strongly recommended that students enter the Pre-Diploma program in 9th grade, as students take accelerated coursework and complete courses required for graduation in 9th and 10th grades. Students applying for the IB Program as a rising 10th and 11th grader may not be eligible for the full Diploma program, and may only be eligible to be an IB Career Pathway student due to required graduation courses. Prospective students should have an 85 or higher in all core academic subjects and should be in good standing with the disciplinary code of their present school. Students applying for the IB Diploma Program should have successfully completed the equivalent of Algebra I at the 8th grade level. If students are admitted into the program without taking Algebra I in 8th grade, they may be required to take Geometry the summer before their 10th grade year. Students are expected to meet or exceed standards in all subjects on standardized tests including the Georgia Milestones. An interview is required and parents will be contacted to set up a specific interview date/time.
  • IB Career Program

    IB Career Program students complete at least two IB courses at Central Fine Arts & International Baccalaureate High School and complete a chosen career pathway through Hutchings College & Career Academy to earn dual enrollment credit & industry certification during 11th-12th grade. Career Pathways include: Audio/Video/Film, Banking & Finance, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Cybersecurity, EMR/EMT, Engineering, Graphic Design, Teaching as a Profession, Sports Medicine. Students applying for the IB Career Program must maintain certain GPA averages to be accepted into Hutchings College & Career Academy their Junior Year. Interested students must apply to Hutchings spring of their Sophomore year and be accepted by HCCA to start their career pathway their Junior Year.
  • IB Diploma Program

    Students will complete the Pre-Diploma Program in 9th and 10th grade and formally enter the IB Diploma Program beginning in 11th grade. Students must pass all their pre-diploma courses, and maintain at least a 70 average in their coursework to continue in the program. IB Diploma Program students complete the full IB Diploma program beginning their Junior Year including all six IB subjects, and completion of the IB Diploma Program core. Following completion of the IB Diploma Program, students are eligible to earn the prestigious IB Diploma for which colleges may award up to 30 credit hours for attainment.
  • IB Acceptance Information

    Acceptance to the IB program is provisional. A final review of eligibility will be made at the end of the current school year, and parents will be notified of rescission of offer to participate. Students must agree to remain in the IB program for one full academic year. Students must agree to the terms of the IB Academic Integrity Policy. Failure in any Pre-Diploma/IB Course or a breach of the IB Academic Integrity Policy may result in dismissal from the Pre-Diploma/IB Diploma Program and return to the student's zoned school. A pattern of disruptive behavior and/or excessive absences from class will result in dismissal from the program. Formal admission to the IB Career and Diploma Program comes at the end of the sophomore year & no retake of Pre-Diploma or IB courses is offered.

    For selection purposes, address and phone numbers must be updated with your zoned school and the magnet school that you are applying for your child to attend. Your child could miss placement opportunities if current contact information is not on file. In the event that your child changes schools after submitting an application, please notify the IB Coordinator and/or school registrar as soon as possible.

  • Fine Arts Audition/Interview Requirements

    An audition for Fine Arts IS REQUIRED IN ADDITION to this application. Fine Arts auditions will be held WEDNESDAY, February 5th, 4:00-6:00 PM at Central High School.

    Please attend the audition for your FIRST-CHOICE fine art that you selected on this application on Wednesday, February 5th.

    Students increase their chances of acceptance by auditioning for both their first and second choice, but whichever audition they attend first will have priority if both disciplines wish to accept the student. Students must remain in their discipline for all four years, so please choose carefully.


    VISUAL ARTS

    1. Interview with a Visual Arts faculty member at a prearranged appointment.

    2. On site drawing exercise to be explained by Visual Arts faculty prior to interview.

    3. Portfolio of at least 10 strong pieces of artwork (to be viewed and discussed at interview). Artwork should be organized in a portfolio folder and brought to the interview.

    4. Compliance with all Fine Arts Dept. criteria including completion of online application with teacher recommendations, transcripts, etc.


    BAND

    1. Perform at least two of the following scales in the GMEA All-State Pattern: Concert F, Bb, Eb, Ab Scales (Percussion would perform the scales on mallets).
    2. Sight-reading example provided at audition and performed by student.
    3. Percussionists will have to play both snare and mallet sight-reading.
    4. Prepared solo piece of music brought in by the student. For percussion this can be on snare drum, mallets, or timpani.

     

    STRING ORCHESTRA

    1. Students should be able to play CM, GM, DM, AM, FM, B-Flat Major scales and arpeggios. (Group audition)
    2. Students will take a general knowledge test. (Group Audition)
    3. Students will discuss contract and orchestra expectation. One-on-one interview and discussion.

    CHORUS


    1. Ability to sing scales (major, minor, & chromatic).
    2. Count simple rhythms using (whole, half, and quarter notes).
    3. Prepare any vocal selection of their choice for vocal quality.
    4. Tonal Memory - director will play short phrases on the piano for the applicant to sing back on neutral vowels sounds.


    DANCE

    1. Understand that students are required to study ballet, tap, jazz, and modern dance every week. African, hip-hop, and majorette dance styles are rarely studied as part of the magnet program. Have a willingness to learn, work hard, and a love for all dance.
    The audition will consist of a ballet barre and a jazz or modern combination taught by the teacher.

    2. Students must demonstrate the following:
    Proper alignment of the body.
    Stretched and pointed feet.
    Turn out.
    Demi and grand plié.
    Tendu.
    Passé.
    Ron de jambe.
    Battement.
    Grand jete.
    Have a basic knowledge and proficiency in jazz and ballet.
    Have some flexibility.


    THEATRE

    The audition for Theatre students will include a performance of a 2-3 minute prepared monologue (selected by the student). If interested in musical theatre, please prepare a musical theatre song selection within the 2-3 minutes also.

  • CENTRAL FINE ARTS MAGNET STUDENT AND PARENT/GUARDIAN CONTRACT

    I agree to the following requirements of the program. I understand that failure to fulfill these requirements will result in my dismissal from the Fine Arts Magnet at Central Fine Arts & International Baccalaureate Magnet High School in which case I will return to my home districted school.

    A.    Maintain an 80 or higher GPA in all Academic subjects.

    B.     Maintain a 90 or higher GPA in Fine Arts subjects.

    C.    Attend and document eight (8) Community Cultural Events each school year (such as plays, concerts, art exhibits, readings, other performances).  Four events are required by December and four events are required by May. Events may be virtual.

    D.    Fulfill and document 20 approved volunteer service hours in the community or at school each school year.  Ten hours are required by December and ten hours are required by May.

    E.     Attend all rehearsals, performances, camps, exhibit openings required in my Fine Arts area.  (Other outside activities will be secondary to these requirements.  If you are not able to commit to the requirements, please do not apply for our program.)

    F.     Take four (4) years in your Fine Arts area of concentration.

    G.    Have no more than four (4) unexcused absences in any class.

    H.    Adhere to Central Fine Arts & International Baccalaureate Magnet High School’s Tardy Policy. Failure to comply with the tardy policy is grounds for dismissal from the program.

    I.       Serve no more than 9 weeks of probation for any reason during the years I am in the Fine Arts program at Central Fine Arts & International Baccalaureate Magnet High School.  (Students, who do not maintain the required GPA, fail to turn in folder requirements on time, frequently disobey school dress code, or fail to attend required rehearsals/performances will be placed on probation.  The Fine Arts faculty will meet and document the length and conditions of probation.)

    J.      Follow and support the Central Fine Arts & International Baccalaureate Magnet High School Discipline Code.  Fine Arts students cannot have more than one (1) administrative referral per year.

    K.    Understand that any incident of fighting, vandalism, theft, or other code of conduct infractions at the discretion of administration that are considered severe will be grounds for IMMEDIATE dismissal from the Fine Arts program without a probationary period.

    L.     Understand that I can be dismissed from the Fine Arts program at the end of any current semester for disciplinary infractions, or for failing to maintain Academic and Fine Arts expectations.

    M.   Understand that I must pass both an individual performance evaluation and a written examination specific to my Fine Arts area in order to receive a graduation seal.

    N.    All students must show commitment, respect to adults and others, a positive attitude and responsibility.  Failure to do so will also result in a probationary status.

    O.    Understand that if a student withdraws or is dismissed from the Fine Arts program for any reason, they will NOT be allowed to return at any time.

    International Baccalaureate Audition Requirements

    An audition for the IB Program IS REQUIRED IN ADDITION to this application. Auditions will be held WEDNESDAY, February 5th, 4:00-6:00 PM in the Central High School Cafeteria.

    Make-up auditions will be held by appointment with the International Baccalaureate Coordinator. Students should be prepared to talk about their interests and academic strengths. Students should be able to answer general questions about the IB Program, and explain why they are interested in applying.

    Students should submit a clear, well-written response below in which they state their reasons for applying to the International Baccalaurate Program at Central Fine Arts & International Baccalaureate Magnet High School. It is important to convey knowledge of the IB Program and explain how the program can assist students in achieving their academic/career goals. Students must compose their own statements in the space provided.

    In-District Applicants

    Student attended school in the Bibb County School District for the 2024-2025 school year. Grades, attendance, and discipline records will be requested from the middle school attended. You do not need to submit that documentation. You are only required to submit one recommendation.

    Out-of-District Applicants

    Student attended a school NOT in the Bibb County School District for all or part of the 2024-2025 school year. This applies to all private and home schools as well as public or charter schools that do not operate within the Bibb County School District. You will need to upload an academic transcript, attendance, and discipline records, along with the recommendation.
