  • Adoption Process

Our adoption process consists of several steps:

    1. Submitting an application for the specific cat
    2. Submitting a video of your house for the home check
    3. We create a WhatsApp group chat with the adopter, the rescuer/fosterer and Clan McCat Scotland.
    4. We organise a Videocall with the rescuer/fosterer to meet your cat
    5. If all parts are happy to proceed, we request a £50 non-refundable deposit per cat to reserve your cat. At that point, we close all applications and don’t accept any applications for that cat.

We reserve the right to stop the adoption process at any point if we or the rescuers consider that the house is not the best match for that particular cat or if we consider that the wellbeing of the cat is at risk.

If Clan McCat Scotland cancels the adoption after the cat has been reserved, we will return the £50 deposit.

All contact must be made through the Charity WhatsApp group. We will terminate the application should a potential adopter contact a rescuer directly outside the group Clan McCat makes. Should a rescuer contact a potential adopter outside this group, the adopter will inform Clan McCat immediately.

    Costs

We ask for a minimum donation of £339 per cat (£625 per bonded pair / £650 for two cats). We will fundraise to be able to cover the full costs of the relocation costs (flight and pet taxi) as required which vary from case to case but should expect that the individual costs associated with the adoption will be discussed upfront before reserving. If there are any doubts you should contact Clan McCat Scotland on the page.

The fundraisers must be completed for the pets to travel. We expect adopters to share the responsibility of promoting and disseminating the fundraisers. It is important to be aware of the fact that, if the required funds are not raised in time before travel it may be necessary to cancel the flight.

  • Follow Up

We will continue to be in touch with you and retain the right to also carry out a further visit to the new home after the cat is placed as a follow up check.

If there are any changes in your contact details and/or address we request that you keep us updated.

Please note that we reserve the right to remove the cat from your care if your circumstances have changed to the degree that they no longer meet our rehoming criteria and, as such, would fail any future follow up home checks.

  • Health Check

As a Charity, we try to ensure all our cats are healthy and any disabilities, medical conditions, behavioural issues or illnesses that may require lifelong treatment, are known to the Charity and our Adopters via the Rescuers and the Veterinary Clinics they work with. We work with other charities and independent rescuers who provide and care for the health of every single rescue cat. However, it is important to note that many of our cats come from countries where Veterinary care is very limited, including resources, medical equipment, medicine, diagnostics and Veterinary Surgeons. We therefore do our best to ensure we know everything about our cat’s health status to the best of our ability and have as much transparency with our adopters as is possible.

We expect that the cat is registered with a vet upon arrival to the UK and insured from the day s/he arrives. Most insurance companies will cover accidents from the first day but will not cover any health issue developed within the first 14 days.

  • Rehoming

The rescue in Scotland MUST be informed at any time of a change in circumstances. Our cat MUST NEVER be handed over to any other local Rescue and/or be sold and/or be given to another owner without our consent. Their microchip is registered under the Charity until the cats arrive in the UK and the details are transferred upon receipt of the signed adoption contract.

We expect adopters to follow our advice on introducing cats to a new environment. In the case of the cat needing to be rehomed after adoption due to extreme circumstances, we will do everything we can to find a new home for them. We will ask the adopter to provide us with the necessary time to do so and cover the costs of transportation.

  • Change of contact details

In the occasion that your contact details as those have been stated on this application form have changed or intend to change, you MUST keep us informed and send us the information of your new contact details (telephone number and address) the soonest.
