  • Youth Concerto Competition

    presented by the Augusta Symphony and Augusta University Department of Music
  • As of the 2025 - 2026 season, the Youth Concerto Competition is open to students

    • ages 14 - 18 in 9th through 12th grades,
    • residing in Georgia or South Carolina,
    • who play orchestral instruments including strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion, and piano.

    Please note the following when applying:

    • Competitors will perform one movement from an orchestral concerto or piece of their choice.
    • Video submissions must include an accompanist playing the orchestral reduction.
    • Selections MUST be memorized.
    • If selected, each student must provide their own piano accompanist on the day of the competition.

    The 1st place winner will receive a cash prize of $300 and the 2nd place winner will receive $200. The winner may have the opportunity to perform with the Augusta Symphony, under the direction of Maestro Dirk Meyer. Final decisions concerning repertoire performed with the orchestra will be subject to his approval.

    Applicants must submit a complete application and a non-refundable application fee of $50 by Friday, January 16, 2026. Students selected to compete will be notified by email on Monday, February 2, 2026. Winners will be announced immediately following the competition on Sunday, March 1, 2026.
