We have a very informal audition process in place for interested soloists to be invited/receive approval to sing a solo at an upcoming choir rehearsal (and ultimately, an upcoming performance).
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!
1) Please record yourself at home singing the solo, using the 'choir only' track available for each of our solo songs and upload this using the box below. We only need to hear ONE VERSE AND ONE CHORUS - not the whole song (This will ALSO keep the file sizes down too and prevent any problems with being able to upload them to this form due to file size limitations).
The easiest way to record yourself is to play the 'choir only' track through a speaker at home while placing your phone or other recording device nearby to record you. If submitting a VIDEO audition, place the phone PORTRAIT and record yourself, ensuring you stand clearly within the camera view. If submitting an AUDIO audition, place your phone or recording device on a flat surface nearby and open the 'audio recorder' app (which comes free with all Apple and Android devices). Hit 'record' on the app (audio) or camera (video), push play on the 'choir only' track of the song you are singing, and sing/perform the solo of your chosen song.
2) After recording, upload your file below (only ONE song file is permitted per form submission) straight from your device. All standard video and audio file types are permitted. If you have problems using this form, you can also email your submission too.
3) After submitting your video or audio track, you'll be emailed within 7 days, some very brief feedback based mainly on your ability to sing the song accurately on pitch and in time. Please understand that having somebody lead a choir as a soloist who is not confident in these two most important aspects will 'throw' the rest of the choir off the song while leading them. You'll also be told politely if you are not ready to lead the choir during a rehearsal on this particular song (or songs) and you'll be advised accordingly on what to focus on to improve. You'll also be told politely if we feel the song is just not right for you based on its overall range with respect to the range/style of your voice. If we feel the song IS right for you, you'll be invited to try performing the solo with the choir at an upcoming rehearsal of your choice.
4) We please ask you to understand that no comments are personal and that we please kindly ask you to accept the feedback you are given graciously and if necessary, spend some more time practising at home with a view to returning and trying again at a later date - or if the song isn't right for you, wait for a future opportunity with an alternative song instead.
5) Please understand that if the specific song you have been approved/invited to solo on during the upcoming rehearsal of your choice has not been programmed to be sung during the rehearsal week you have chosen to try it, you will be required to wait until a week when it has been programmed. Thanks for your understanding.
6) If more than one person has been approved/invited to try singing a solo for the director on the same night for the same song, it may be necessary to either share the solo during the rehearsal that evening or have one of you sing at the next rehearsal with the choir as soon as we are scheduled to sing this song again.
7) If an upcoming performance is scheduled and you are suitable to lead the choir as a soloist, you will be informed with at least one week's notice. Thanks!
