Tax Questions

Both of the below tax measures are under consideration or on the radar of local government officials
Currently, there is no county sales tax charged in Montezuma County. The current sales tax breakdown for Cortez is: 2.9% State + 4.05% City of Cortez + 0.4% Hospital District for a current total sales tax percentage of 7.35%

For comparison, neighboring La Plata County currently charges a 2% county sales tax combined with a 3.5% City of Durango and 2.9% State sales tax for a current total sales tax percentage of 8.4%

Lodgers Tax is assessed and collected on Hotel Stays, RV & Campground stays, and Vacation Rental(Air B&B) stays. The current Lodgers Tax Rates locally are Montezuma County= 2% and City of Cortez= 2%.
