  • Thank you for stepping up to protect the Jewish community.

    CTRI is recruiting volunteers across Northern Virginia, Montgomery County, and Washington, DC. You don’t need to belong to a synagogue to participate, though we may give priority to applicants whose institutions are ready to partner with CTRI for community-based security.

    Some volunteers may also be selected to assist with special events and community-wide security initiatives. We especially welcome IDF and U.S. military veterans, and current or former law-enforcement officers, ready to serve in a new way.

    A quick note before you begin:
    Because CTRI operates as a licensed armed security organization, state laws and regulations require us to verify eligibility, conduct background screening, and collect certain information before training begins. These steps help ensure everyone’s safety and protect both our volunteers and the community we serve. We know this form is more detailed than a typical volunteer application — thank you for your patience and trust. Your information is handled confidentially and used only for state-mandated compliance and internal screening.

  • Do you understand that volunteer security officers are expected to be in good physical condition, and do you feel you are physically able to participate in a physical fitness related test as part of the training and selection process?
  • Do you understand that you will be required to obtain your Virginia, Maryland, and/or District of Columbia guard certification at your own expense? (Typical costs range $315-$500)
  • Do you understand that you may be required to provide some of your equipment at your own expense, and that all equipment used on duty with CTRI is subject to CTRI policies and approvals? (e.g.: firearms and holsters must comply with CTRI's list of approved options)

  • Commitment & Acknowledgments

  • Participation may require multiple weekends of training and ongoing qualifications. Training will be held primarily on Sundays and weekday evenings. There will be approximately 60-80 hours of initial training. Are you able to commit to that schedule?
  • Do you understand that you will be expected to maintain proficiency with ongoing training, and to demonstrate ongoing proficiency at quarterly qualification exams?
  • Volunteers are subject to strict codes of conduct, use-of-force policies, and confidentiality. Are you willing to agree to and abide by all CTRI standards and oversight?
