  • Collegiate Spotlight Application for Exhibition

    Studio 23/The Arts Center
  • Studio 23’s Collegiate Spotlight Program will feature the artwork of area college students with a developed portfolio of artwork. Students' applications will be reviewed and approved by the Curator of Exhibits. Students will be required to install their own artwork under the guidance of the Curator of Exhibits.

The area reserved for the Collegiate Spotlight program is approximately 13’ wide by 9’ high, and we typically have 4 pedestals available, each about 15” square. We would like to focus on one to two students at a time, with the possibility of pairing 2D and 3D artists.

  • Requirements of Selected Artists:

Artist warrants that they have created and have unencumbered title to all artwork in the exhibit.

Artist will prepare an inventory list, which will include: Title, Media, Size, Date, and Sale Price (or NFS).

Artist will send or deliver an artist statement and biography no longer than 1 page to be included in the exhibit. A recent photograph of the artist and images of artwork may be sent to be included in online marketing by Studio 23.

Artwork must be delivered to Studio 23 and installed by the artist under the guidance of the curator of exhibits on the date and time agreed upon between the artist and curator of exhibits. Tools and hardware such as screws, nails, and pedestals will be provided by the studio.

Artwork must be ready for the exhibit. Paint must be dry, and each piece should be identified on the reverse side or bottom. All wall-displayed works of art must be presented framed or gallery-wrapped. A framed work must have a wire on the back, a French cleat, or sawtooth hanging hardware. No raw glass edges are acceptable. All other systems must be discussed with curator of exhibits before a decision is reached.

Artwork accepted for exhibition and sale will be held for the full period of exhibition as determined by Studio 23.

We highly encourage a portion of exhibited work be for sale.

    Sales:
Sales of the Artist’s works are highly encouraged. Labels with prices are displayed near the artwork.

If a piece is not for sale, it is marked NFS or designated as being in an owner’s collection. The insurance value is based on the retail price of the NFS item.

All sales are consigned at sixty percent (60%) of sale to the Artist and forty percent (40%) of sale to Studio 23. Tax is collected by Studio 23. Payment schedule for artists is on a quarterly basis. A check will be mailed to the artists for any sold artwork at this time.

If a collector makes an inquiry with Studio 23 about a work after the close of the exhibit and the work is available for purchase, the Artist will receive a sixty percent (60%) commission and a forty percent (40%) commission will go to Studio 23.

    Publicity:
Studio 23 will provide online marketing with social media that includes Facebook and Instagram. Our website, blog, and mass emails will also include promotion of the exhibit.

    Reproduction Rights:
The Artist reserves all rights of reproduction of consigned artwork. Studio 23 may publish photographs of all artwork for promotional and/or education purposes as it may deem appropriate.

    Return of Artwork:

Artwork that is left at Studio 23 beyond 30 days will be considered a donation to Studio 23.

Artist is responsible for the proper insurance coverage during the period of transportation and exhibition. Studio 23 is not responsible for any loss, theft, or damage to the works of art while in its possession or on display; specifically, from the date of delivery to Studio 23 until the date of delivery to the purchaser or return to the Artist.

All reasonable care will be taken with artwork. We strongly suggest that artists insure their work privately for adequate protection in all potential situations.

Studio 23 is acting solely as a representative of the Artist, and neither it nor its members shall be liable for loss or damage to artwork, storage crates, personal belongings, or other related items on the premises (or exhibited elsewhere within the sole discretion and under the control of Studio 23) due to theft, loss, fire, or destruction of any cause other than those negligence by Studio 23.
